About me and my therapy practice
Therapy with Jo:
Hello, I'm Jo.
Need someone to talk to who will properly listen and understand?
Perhaps you have had a difficult childhood and not spoken about it in depth or made sense of it?
Is there a trauma in your past that may be affecting your behaviour and relationships now?
I’m truly passionate about what I do: to help people lead happier lives.
I have valuable and extensive experience of working with clients who have experienced trauma: sexual, physical and emotional abuse. I have also had vast experience of working with neurodiversity.
I can help with issues including trauma, abuse, rape, relationships, bereavement and neurodiversity. In particular, I can support parents of neurodiverse children.
The impact of trauma can lead to profound difficulties in later life including ongoing anxiety, depression, low self-esteem and addictive or obsessive behaviours that are not helpful in your present life.
I can help.
Speaking about your story and the feelings attached, can have a powerful effect on your life now.
If your life is overwhelming and you’d like to explore your issues and gain clarity and control, I can help.
If we work together effectively, I can enable you to understand yourself better and what is going on for you.
Together we can find a way to help you manage issues in your life better: leading to a happier, more fulfilling life.

What do I specialise in?
I am a qualified integrative counsellor and member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (MBACP) I adhere to their ethical guidelines, so you can feel confident our sessions are confidential and I will provide you with the best possible service to meet your needs.
I specialise in abuse, trauma and neurodiversity.
I work within a trauma informed, phased approach. This ensures that we work at a pace that is safe and feels right for you. I believe that it is important that our work together is shaped to meet your unique individual needs. In particular I can support parents and siblings of neurodiverse children.
Where am I?
I am based in Wokingham and have a counselling room available for counselling in person but I’m happy to work online or a mixture of both.
Session fees and commitment:

- timelines
- drumming
- emotion cards
- emotion wheels
- Russian doll work
- walk and talk
- working with your nervous system to reduce anxiety
My first session
In your first therapy session following an optional free 20 minute video call, we will discuss ways that we can work together and what you hope to achieve from the sessions. This may include a brief assessment of how you are doing right now so that we can review every 6 sessions.
We will discuss elements of the contract such as confidentiality, note keeping and what happens when either one of us has to cancel.
The first session will give us both the opportunity to ask any questions we may have about our work together and to get a feel for our working partnership moving forwards.
It is important that you are comfortable with the notion that counselling isn't done to you, it is a process of self discovery about what is going on for you.
I am trained to work face to face, online using TEAMS or WHATSAPP or phone counselling. I am happy to use a mixture of mediums to suit.
