About me and my therapy practice

Given a supportive environment we are all much more able to grow towards our greatest potential. That is what I work to provide as a counsellor.

Your reasons for coming for counselling will be unique to you and we will begin by spending some time exploring these together.

I will offer a non-judgmental, supportive space to explore whatever is going on for you.

One of the first tasks of therapy is to begin building a relationship of safety and trust. I am always happy to answer any questions you have and will offer regular opportunities to discuss how things are working between us.

Person centred counselling recognises that therapist and client are equals – I endeavour to provide a space for you where you can find your way towards your own answers – you are the expert on your own life.

While I won’t offer you advice, I might suggest ways of processing your experiences in therapy.

I can work with you to help you identify and express your needs. Part of that work may be to provide a place where you can allow yourself to experience the grief and loss you might carry for any unmet needs from the past.

Some of the work of counselling can be to integrate all the parts of self, to recognise how all those parts are in some way trying to help us to survive our lives. When we offer acceptance to all the parts of ourselves then fear no longer stops us from seeing what we might want to change.

By offering my acceptance and interest I hope to create an atmosphere of compassionate curiosity between us. We can notice without judgement what is happening within us and respond in new ways.

My belief is that the purpose of therapy isn’t about getting from ‘here’ to ‘there’ it is about a shift from ‘stuckness’ to ‘changingness’ – from being trapped in old patterns to being able to respond freely in the here and now.
