About me and my therapy practice
I am a person-centred psychotherapist with a special interest in substance addiction and the complicated issues that can affect the drug user's life. I am also work as a more general practitioner with clients who display more common/broader issues such as relationships, low self-esteem, family problems, anxiety and depression, bereavement and loss.
Person-Centred approach is a professional and equal relationship between client and counsellor where the therapist works to understand the individual's experience from their perspective. Therapy takes place in a safe, confidential and non-judgemental space where you will be invited to talk about about and explore your concerns and what is troubling you.
Sessions are led by the client who decides what it is they wish to talk about-I take the view that client's know themselves best, and if the right conditions are facilitated they will come to experience and understand themselves more fully and develop a greater awareness of themselves and their troubles, which enables clients to fulfil their potential.
Often the process of exploring your issues can be emotionally hard to talk about because the healing process requires remembering things which may be difficult, but it is also often very rewarding when under he right 'environment' you can gain the ability to identify and explore your options more openly, freely and independently.
Practice description
I work from my home office/therapy space with most of my experience being on a one-to-one basis helping individuals' with their personal, and professional issues and anxieties.
My office made very easy to sanitise. The chairs which are two meters apart are leather and the furniture is wood and everything is sanitised after each client. The windows can also be open for ventilation.
My first session
Our first session will be a concessionary 20 minutes which will give you the opportunity to ask any questions and for us to gather a little information about each other and go over the details of the process of counselling and confidentiality. It will allow us to discuss boundaries around counselling and make sure that everything is clear to begin with.
It will allow you to discus what your main goals of therapy are during the counselling process. These may change over time which is perfectly normal and understandable. The first session will also give the the chance to see if you feel I am the right counsellor for you and if you think I am the right person to help with your situation.
