About me and my therapy practice

Hello and a warm welcome. I provide a safe, non-judgmental and confidential space for young people (age 5 - 17) to explore their feelings and difficult experiences, recognise and change unhealthy behaviours and thought patterns and grow in self-confidence. I am an integrative child and adolescent counsellor with a post graduate diploma from Place2Be, the UK's leading mental health organisation for children and adolescents. I work in private practice at The Awareness Centre in Clapham, and can help with anxiety, depression, self-esteem, relationship and peer difficulties, school issues, family conflict and behavioural difficulties.

My integrative practice means that I draw on a variety of ways of working including psychodynamic theory to explore what is being communicated unconsciously as well as literally, person centered theory to allow the young person the freedom to express themselves as they need to without judgement, attachment theory and systemic theory which takes into account the environment in which the young person experiences life. I use a range of tools and resources such as sand trays, games, art and story-telling - as well as talking therapy and the use of the body - to meet the needs of each young person I meet.

Practice description

You or your child may be struggling with difficult feelings and problems feel huge; counselling can help. Building a safe and helpful therapeutic relationship is central to my work and I have found that when young people feel understood, seen and heard they are better able to understand themselves and create positive change.

I have worked with young people for nearly 20 years, now as an experienced counsellor and prior to that as a teacher and special educational needs coordinator. I have had extensive experience of working with children with social, emotional and mental health difficulties in schools and in the therapy room and I have wide ranging knowledge of how to support young people and their families. I am able to help with – among other things – issues such as anxiety, depression, self-esteem, relationship and peer difficulties, school issues, family conflict and behavioural difficulties.

I am a registered member of the BACP. Other qualifications include a post graduate certificate in education, the national award for special educational needs coordinator and a master’s degree in primary education.

My first session

You can email me or call the number on the site. I offer a free telephone consultation to discuss your child's needs and discuss your concerns. I will then meet with the parent/carer for a 50 minute history about your child and their circumstances and then with your child in the therapy room while the parent/carer waits outside. For young people age 13+ they may not want me to meet with their parent and that's OK. We will both then decide whether your child will benefit from counselling with me. If we are both in agreement and the child has consented I will see your child at the same time and day in the therapy room each week.
