Availability
Currently I have a busy practice (face to face and online) and can offer short-term counselling only. This means a block of 6 sessions where we will establish a focus. We will review at session 5 and there is the possibility of a futher maximum of 6 sessions, making 12 in total.
Availability depends on whether the sessions are online or face to face but I will always strive to find a time that suits your schedule.
About me and my therapy practice
Welcome to my profile. I hope the information provided here will help you to decide whether I might be the right person for you. I also offer an initial 15 minute phone call free of charge to answer any further queries, and to think about whether we would be a good fit.
I work via a combination of video conferencing, telephone, and face to face appointments.
My therapeutic approach is Person Centred and I sometimes integrate other approaches. This means the way in which I work is always informed by you, believing that our relationship is the most important aspect of therapy. I have the experience to work with a wide range of difficulties and I regularly use creative methods if it feels that it would benefit you.
I can help people to find a way through difficulty and distress and feel stronger and safer. I have a firm belief in their capacity to fulfill their own potential and make appropriate choices for themselves, given the right non-judgmental encouragement and support.
I will always aim to help you feel sufficiently comfortable to begin to talk about your difficulties, and to support you to think about areas that are less comfortable for you.
I have over 25 years' experience of working therapeutically with children, adults, couples and families within the NHS, schools, criminal justice system, national children’s charities and also privately.
Please ask about anything you would want to know – I would welcome the opportunity to have a conversation with you.
Practice description
Face to face sessions are held in a therapy centre in Hexham. There is a receptionist and waiting area. There is a staircase with a chairlift if required, and then a further 6 stairs which unfortunately don't. However, if this is a problem, it may be that another room can be available at the top of the first staircase.
If the sessions are to be online, my preference would be video conferencing over telephone if that is a choice. That said, I know it is not always possible for various reasons, and I am happy to think with you about your own preferences.
Should you decide to come for regular sessions, we will arrange times and dates. I will talk in more detail when we meet (or if we have an initial telephone call) about how I work. Please ask any questions that you have. You can stop coming at any time, although it is usually best to have a planned ending.
My first session
Prior to our first meeting, I will ask you to complete a registration form online in the form of a simple Word document. This will ask for some basic information. If you are unable to do this for any reason, we can fill it in together during our first appointment.
The first session is an opportunity for us to meet, think together about what the difficulties are, and decide from there whether I am the right person to help you. If not for any reason, I can help you think about where to access further help and support.
