About me and my therapy practice
At times life can feel as if it is moving too fast and although we have so much technology these days, it can be difficult to make meaningful connections with others.
During the course of our busy lives there will be instances when our families, friends or work colleagues are unable to spend quality time truly listening to us, and over time, not being able to express our innermost feelings to someone who cares, could lead us to feel unseen, unheard, irrelevant and lonely.
When training to become a Person-centred Counsellor in 2011, one of the most significant academic studies I undertook (which still stands out in my mind today) was one which identified the detrimental effects of loneliness upon individuals who did not have access to emotional support. The studies confirmed that not feeling emotionally connected to others and/or becoming physically isolated, could lead to both psychological and physical ill health. Anxiety, depression, heart disease, high/low blood pressure, weight gain/weight loss were listed amongst the many and varied symptoms experienced by lonely/disconnected individuals.
As a Person-centred counsellor I have witnessed that therapy can foster a greater sense of connectedness. This is largely due to the depth and sincerity of the therapeutic relationship between counsellor and client, often leading to clients feeling truly heard, deeply understood, unconditionally accepted and valued. It is from this therapeutic state that life’s challenges, worries and concerns, large and small, can be carefully considered and worked through empathically and compassionately in order to aid therapeutic recovery, connectedness and wellbeing.
As a trained professional, registered and governed by the BACP, I can offer you a private, supportive, empathic and non-judgmental environment in which to talk through your issues. You do not have to suffer in silence or face your difficulties alone.
