About me and my therapy practice

Hi, my name is Maria, I have a private practice called Treasure Chest Counselling

I work with clients by offering a variety of activities that will help you to facilitate change. I work holistically so that you can explore their difficulties in a safe place at your own time and pace It's important to feel listened to and heard. Appointments can be arranged by either telephone, text, email or via my website. We can set up an initial session, where we will talk about what you want to get out of counselling. If you're happy to continue, we will set up a second session and I will arrange to see you ideally weekly/fortnightly. Please do get in touch if you have any questions. I have 20 years of experience of working with children, young people and adults with a well-known Safeguarding Therapeutic Children’s Charity. I have also volunteered at MIND Counselling Service and Co-ran Eating Disorders group. I am trained in REWIND Technique

About me and my therapy practice

Finding the right supervisor is especially important, I offer a free phone consultation so that you can get a sense of how I work and to check whether you feel I fit with you. I work within the CLEAR Model and my approach is Normative, Formative and Restorative. For me supervision is about unpacking anything that has affected the supervisee, I believe that challenge is an important part of supervision if the supervisee wants to grow in their awareness and practice. It is important that supervision explores any blocks, transference or any parallel processes. During supervision the client is central to the work  (as though they are in the supervision session).

An important part of supervision is self-care, I work holistically with supervisees so that they can explore their clients and self in a safe environment It is important that a provide a place where the supervisee can be vulnerable to explore how the client has impacted on them and how they impact on the client.

Within the supervisory relationship I am transparent, I write up a summary of our supervision together and a copy is given to the supervisee for their records. I have a vast array of resources and skills that I can share with the supervisee to enhance their learning and creative toolbox.

Practice description

I currently have an office in Ashton in Makerfield, where I carry out face to face counselling sessions and supervision. I am also willing to carry out supervision online via Zoom or Teams.

Contracting

Here I am not only helping you the Supervisee establish what outcomes you want to achieve because of Supervision. We also open the discussion, establishing the scope of the Supervision, and setting ground rules for working together.

Listening

This stage is all about actively listening to you the Supervisee and listening with empathy to help you gain an understanding of your situation and personal insight.

Exploring

This stage comprises two elements:

Exploring 1: Helping the Supervisee to understand the personal impact the situation is having on themselves.

Exploring 2: Challenging the Supervisee to think through possibilities for future action in resolving the situation.

Action

At this stage I am supporting the Supervisee in choosing a way ahead and deciding the next step.

Review

Finally, this is about closing the session, reinforcing ground covered, decisions made, and value added. As a Supervisor I am also encouraging feedback from you the Supervisee on what was helpful about the Supervision process, what was difficult and what they would like to be different in future Supervision sessions. I also, include every session a re-cap and follow up of any actions that were set in the previous supervision session.

My first session

During our first session we will explore what you want from supervision, we will discuss safeguarding, GDPR, Ethical frame works and the contract that we are making together. This will include roles and responsibilities. We will agree when and where we will carry out supervision and frequency.

Before attending supervision for your first meeting with me it is good practice to think about what you want from supervision for example you may want a supervisor that will challenge you and use Erickson’s scaffolding method to teach / learn. You may want a supervisor that can help you build your creative toolbox so that you can cater for all your clients learning styles. This an all be discussed during the contracting session.
