About me and my therapy practice

My name is Kelly Bushell and I am a fully qualified Integrative Counsellor who qualified in 2012. I am a registered member of the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) and work by their code of ethics which includes monthly supervision. I hold public liability and personal indemnity insurance and am registered with the ICO (Information Commissioner’s Office) for the processing of personal information.

Being an Integrative Counsellor allows me to work with a wide range of clients and issues, although being mindful that I do have limitations and would signpost or advise a referral if this was the case.

Within our work together I will offer you a safe space, with no judgments to work through the difficulties you may be experiencing at your own time and space.

Continuing professional development is extremely important to me and I have covered many various areas over the years which I am happy to discuss. I work mainly under a Humanistic umbrella with a Person-Centred base, this allows clients to lead the sessions and holds a belief that we all have our own answers within, but other approaches and challenging can be introduced where appropriate.

I have held placements at Open Door, where I worked with teens predominantly.

Basildon’s women’s Aid with women dealing with domestic violence.

Thurrock Mind/Middlesbrough and Stockton Mind with clients experiencing mental health issues on both a voluntary basis and seeing private clients. I also worked as a Children Centres Counsellor within Thurrock, this was working with parents and an IAPT role which were both via Thurrock Mind.

Practice description

The counselling sessions are yours and we will therefore work together to find the best way of working that suits you.

I currently work from home and offer Zoom or telephone counselling.  That in its self can take some getting used to just as meeting someone face to face can be daunting, but we are in it together.  There are no expectations, we just find our way together as everybody is an individual and each counselling relationship is unique.

Please note that Zoom is £50 per hour/Telephone £45 per hour.

We can work on time limited sessions or we leave them open ended, whatever suits you best.  If we are working open ended I will review periodically.

My first session

On contact I offer a free telephone consultation for us to get a feel for whether we could work together.  If I feel that a different Therapist or specialised agency would be better I will happily let you know so that you can make the best choice for you.

Our first session is chargeable, it will be for 50 mins and we will start with a very brief assessment where I can obtain the personal detail I need to hold and also some risk questions to make sure that we are both kept safe.  It is also where we begin to get to know each other.
