About me and my therapy practice

What's troubling you?

Perhaps you've developed anxiety or depression and it is increasingly impacting on your day to day experiences, relationships or work.

Maybe it's hard to put your finger on what's wrong... perhaps you are experiencing a general sense of  dissatisfaction or unease -  of things just not being 'right', or that life could be more fulfilling.

Or maybe you are dealing with a specific life transition (e.g. redundancy, menopause, retirement, kids starting school, juggling children and career etc), a loss or a bereavement.

How can counselling help?

Often our first instinct is to soldier on in the hope that things will improve or work themselves out. It’s not uncommon to feel like we should be able to cope or that we should be able to figure out a solution for ourselves.

If you are feeling overwhelmed by difficult feelings, or intrusive thoughts are impacting on the quality of your life, I want to reassure you that therapy can provide the support you are seeking.

Asking for help takes courage and speaking about our difficulties can be a source of anxiety in itself,  but it can also be a huge relief.

There is hope, things can change and counselling does help.

Please reach out to me if you would like an informal chat to explore whether I might be the right counsellor for you.

Practice description

What can I expect?

I will work with you to create a safe space where together we can explore the issues that made you reach out for help. My practice is integrative, so I draw on a range of counselling and psychotherapeutic theories.

Combining my experience and training as a qualified counsellor, psychotherapist and coach, I will work with you to build a trust based relationship from which meaningful exploration and healing can take place. Together we develop insights and understanding that can help you process difficult experiences, improve your relationships and live your life in more meaningful and connected ways.

I established my private practice after 20 years in corporate roles focusing on Talent & Leadership Development and Organisational/Employee Wellbeing and am familiar with the pressures of juggling career and family life.

The thread that runs through my work is my experience creating environments where people feel safe enough to explore their thoughts and emotions and where they are heard with compassion.

About me and my therapy practice

A healthy counselling practice is built on the solid foundation of quality supervision and support.

As an integrative counsellor and trainee psychoanalytical psychotherapist, I offer integrative supervision, using the Seven Eye Model as a framework, for a multi-dimensional perspective, which holds the client at its’ heart.

Along side this, I also run Reflective Practice groups and 1-2-1 Sessions with therapists wishing to more intentionally focus on their development, aspirations and professional identity.

I make a distinction between Supervision, which puts the client at the centre of the conversation and Reflective Practice which is focused on YOU and your development as a therapist in service of your clients.  Please have a look at my website for more information and don't hesitate reach out for an informal no obligation chat!

Practice description

As a qualified counsellor, you know having trusted supervision is vital to your safe and ethical practice.

Quality supervision is the foundation on which a healthy practice can thrive and finding the right supervisor can be a matter of trial and error. The relationship has to be the right fit and of course what works for one will not necessary be a good fit for another.

Research shows supervision is most effective when supervisor and supervisee feel sufficiently comfortable to honestly explore issues, celebrating achievements but also safe enough to admit mistakes and consider areas for personal development.

I have experienced many different types of supervision (both 121 and group) in the different settings in which I’ve worked. I personally found I get the most from supervision when together we create a space where:

  • We work collaboratively, acknowledging each others professional strengths, similarities and differences;
  • I feel safe enough to admit mistakes and consider the shortfalls in my knowledge and experience without being judged;
  • All thoughts and ideas are admissible and a potential source of learning;
  • Self-care and self-development is given due consideration for the part it plays in enabling therapists to work in the best interests of their clients.

As an integrative counsellor and trainee psychoanalytical psychotherapist, I offer integrative supervision, using the Seven Eye Model as a framework, for a multi-dimensional perspective, which holds the client at its’ heart.

Together, we create a psychologically safe environment in which you can explore your client work, without judgement. This a space where it’s OK to admit mistakes. We both take accountability for developing our relationship and we hold the client at the centre of everything we do. This sits alongside your ongoing development and self-care which can so often be sidelined when we work in service of others but I firmly believe “you can’t pour from am empty cup!”.

My first session

Before we meet for our first session, I will send you a welcome pack with some reflective prompts encouraging you to consider what you would find most useful from Supervision.  It also helps me learn about you and your practice, your strengths and focus areas for CPD.

As with client work, I believe the supervisor/supervisee relationship is crucial to the success of our work together, so we will spend some time in the first session getting a feel for each other before we dive into client work.
