Therapist - Watford

Watford WD24
Sessions from £55.00

  • Flexible hours available

I work from a private, confidential space in the North Watford area. It’s a welcoming environment in which I hope you will feel safe to speak unreservedly. Parking is free but spaces can be limited so you may need to walk a short way to the premises. There are steps up to the front door and so not suitable for wheelchair users. I am able to offer face to face sessions during the day between the hours of 09:30- 17:00. I don’t have a waiting room facility so please only arrive a few minutes before your allocated session time.

Thanks to Covid, many of us have become accustomed to working with Zoom and some clients even prefer it. If you require your regular sessions to be in the evening, then these will be delivered via zoom. I can of course also offer zoom sessions during the day time if this is your preference.

About me and my therapy practice

The aim of Psychodynamic therapy is for you to identify and recognise your ways of relating to others and yourself.

We don’t work through specific goals as such and there is no homework like there may be in other modalities of therapy.

The theories that we study as Psychodynamic therapists are based largely on classic Psychoanalysis. The aim is to help you understand how your current feelings and behaviour are shaped by your past experiences and relationships.

The connection with your therapist is key in this type of therapy and you will need to feel safe and accepted in a way that encourages you to talk openly about topics like your childhood and your relationship with your parents.

It’s also worth noting that psychodynamic therapy buys into the concept of the ‘unconscious mind’. This means that there may be painful events that you are not aware of keeping you stuck. By bringing these into the ‘conscious mind’, we can work together to unravel the knots and move forward.

Practice description

I offer long term and short term in person sessions in North Watford. I can also offer Zoom sessions. To start with, an initial appointment of 90 minutes takes place whereby we decide mutually if we could work together. All sessions thereafter are 50 minutes and at the same time weekly.

My aim as a therapist is to provide you with a non-judgemental, unconditional space whereby you can bring your whole self. Therapy can be a challenging undertaking at times but one that will enable you to understand yourself in a way that will help you to make sense of the issues that are holding you back. Asking for help in times of adversity is a sign of strength, courage and commitment to your self-worth. If it sounds like we could work together, please get in touch so that we can arrange an initial conversation.

My first session

I offer a 15-minute free telephone consultation in the first instance to provide you with the opportunity to tell me a bit about what you would like to get from counselling. It might be helpful to think about it as a discovery conversation.

Your first session will be 90 mins long and will cost £65 and regular weekly sessions will be £55.  During this session, we will discuss important information about your history that will enable me to obtain a clearer picture of your life.  We will also discuss what you hope to get out of therapy and cover off the logistics such as our working contract, sessions times, fees and confidentiality.  Sometimes, people feel a great sense of relief after the first session as they feel that they have made a start on helping themselves.
