About me and my therapy practice

Working with people of all ages

If you are struggling with anxiety, lack of self esteem and confidence, low mood or sadness, loss and bereavement or a sense of hopelessness  I can offer a safe space to explore what is going on for you now as well as in your past that might have led to you feeling this way. I aim to support you building self awareness and resilience to live your life in a hopeful and positive way.

I have experience of working both with adults, young people and children and I will always place you at the centre offering a non-judgemental space where you are listened to.

Young people counselling

I am an experienced child and adolescent psychotherapist/counsellor and I have over 30 years’ experience of working with children and young people in a variety of educational and therapeutic settings. I also have experience of working with parents with children struggling with mental health issues or other issues impacting their lives.

My focus is on enabling children and young people to explore and resolve their issues and concerns. This can include friendship/bullying issues, anxiety and excessive worry (exams, future), low mood, family issues like separation and divorce or conflict, identity issues, loss and bereavement, self-harm and suicide ideation. Depending on young person this can be approached through art and play as well as talking.

My aim is to build resilience, confidence and self-awareness through looking at how the young person is feeling now as well as their past experiences.

I have extensive experience of working both in primary and secondary schools and I also run a private practice, including supervision of counsellors working in a school setting.

Practice description

I offer both short term and open ended long term sessions and we will discuss your needs at the initial consultation. The sessions take place weekly at the same time and I make sure they are tailored to your needs. For adults sessions are mainly talk based and for younger people might also include art and play as a way of connecting and expressing feelings.

My first session

I offer an initial phone consultation to gain an understanding of your needs and expectations of therapy. If you feel you want to go forwards working with me we will agree a regular weekly time. I offer both short term and open ended long term sessions and we will discuss your needs at the initial consultation.

If you are looking for therapy for a young person I will initially speak to the parent and agree how to go forward depending on the need and the age of the young person. I work flexibly to ensure the needs of the individual child or young person are met.
