About me and my therapy practice
I am an experienced child and adolescent psychotherapist/counsellor and I have over 30 years’ experience of working with children and young people in a variety of educational and therapeutic settings. I specialise in working with children and young people from 5 to 25 years of age. I currently work both in primary and secondary schools and I also run a private practice, including supervision of counsellors working in a school setting.
My focus is on enabling children and young people to explore and resolve their issues and concerns. Depending on the individual child or young person this can be approached through art and play as well as dialogue. My aim is to build resilience, confidence and self-awareness through looking at how the young person is feeling now as well as their past experiences. This might include family or peer relationships as well as difficult or traumatic experiences.
I offer an initial phone consultation with the parent to gain an understanding of the child or young person’s needs and expectations of therapy. Depending on the individual need and the age of the child, this will typically be followed by an assessment session with the parent to explore what brings your child to therapy and include an exploration of your child’s current situation as well as their past.
Sessions are weekly at a regular time, and I will work with the parent to agree how many sessions are required and when reviews will take place. I work flexibly to ensure the needs of the individual child or young person are met.
My first session
Depending on the need and age of the child the first session can be with the child and parent or the child or young person on their own. This will be discussed with the parent beforehand.
