About me and my therapy practice
Life is a journey of self discovery and throughout my life I have travelled through my own highs and lows, experiencing overwhelming feelings at times which I thought I could not overcome. Therapy helped me to feel emotionally safe, understood, and validated. I began to see links between the past and present, and gained insight into my own patterns of relating with others. Through exploration and insight, change within myself began to occur. I hope to be able to offer this experience to others who feel they are struggling to cope.
I have a particular interest in working with clients who have experienced relational trauma: psychological wounds resulting from difficult connection with others. This may be through our own family or through romantic relationships, and may arise when our emotional needs have not been met either in childhood or adulthood due to emotional/physical abuse or boundary violations. We all need healthy connections with others to feel safe, and I believe that an individual can only feel a sense of well being in the context of healthy interpersonal connection. Feelings of being unworthy or “not good enough” may arise from a childhood where our parents or caregivers were not present for us in a way which showed us acceptance, affection and empathy- and this can affect how we relate to others in adulthood.
I work with individuals using a holistic approach, acknowledging that the mind and body are connected - our emotions affect our physical health and so addressing unprocessed emotions from the past is a key step towards feeling psychologically and physically healthier.
I have worked with many different clients throughout my career and each time I have felt honoured to have been a part of their remarkable journey- it is a privilege and a blessing which I will always feel grateful for.
