About me and my therapy practice
Hello! I am a non-judgmental and compassionate Children and Young Person's Psychotherapeutic Counsellor, based in the North-East. I work integratively, adopting a range of therapeutic approaches (e.g Transactional Analysis, Gestalt, Person-Centred) to meet the child or young person’s needs. Children often communicate their thoughts and feelings through play and the imagination and my background in literature and the arts means I am good at facilitating this with my clients and exploring those feelings in a safe and nurturing way.
I have worked with children and young people who have experienced a range of issues including trauma, abuse, bereavement, parental separation and divorce, difficulties with transitions and challenges at school. I am keen to empower children and young people, helping them build confidence, self-esteem and create a positive and hopeful future for themselves.
My first session
During our first session, we will look at the goal for the counselling together and what the client might want to explore. It will also be a chance to meet each other and see if we are a good fit as the client-therapy relationship is essential to the work. We will then create a contract setting out the times and boundaries of the counselling work.
