It is never possible to guarantee a wholly risk-free environment. But I feel that the space from which I will be working with effect from 04.08.2020 (a large and airy room in a clinical setting), and the measures I have taken, allow me to work as safely as possible with clients who would prefer their sessions to be face-to-face. Do contact me if you would like to discuss.
About me and my therapy practice
Even with those who are closest to you, it can be difficult to find the courage and words to express how you really feel. Finally admitting to someone else that you have real problems might seem overwhelming and fraught with risk of rejection. You may be feeling vulnerable, needy, hopeless, disappointed, sad, lonely, angry, frightened, frustrated, ashamed, unfaithful or unsuccessful.
As a person-centred counsellor, I believe that when offered a conducive therapeutic environment, clients can begin to think differently about the way they see themselves, the way they behave and ultimately the sense of meaning and fulfilment they find in their lives. I am passionate about my work with all clients but have a special interest in men’s mental health.
I hold an MA in Counselling and regularly attend training courses, workshops and seminars to stay up-to-date with latest ways of working with clients’ complex needs. I have attended training with Pink Therapy and Gendered Intelligence to help me in my counselling with clients who find it difficult to live with societal expectations of gender and sexuality.
I bring to my work with clients a rich and varied range of life experiences. I have milked cows, referenced a library, worked on a production line, managed property portfolios, been a company director and experienced redundancy and business loss.
If you choose to work with me as your counsellor, I’ll sit with you in your turmoil, in your fear, in your hopes and in your dreams. I won’t offer advice or tell you what to do. I won’t even claim to have the answers. But I will be by your side, as an equal not an expert, and respectfully challenge you where I think it might help.
At my discreet consulting rooms in Oxton, I will offer you a confidential space where your worries and feelings can be listened to and explored without judgment. Whilst I normally charge £45 per session, concessionary rates will be considered.
Private parking is available on site at my Oxton address and there are nearby bus stops.
My first session
When you first make contact with me I will suggest we start the process by talking on the telephone for 15 or 20 minutes so that we can 'meet' each other. If you then decide to make an appointment, I'll ask you to sign a contract so that we both know what to expect of each other. I will not ask you to commit to a fixed number of sessions.
How many sessions you choose to attend is entirely up to you but making sure that you feel comfortable with me as your counsellor is vital. You might not be sure straight away but after two or three sessions though, you will probably sense whether my approach is going to be effective for you personally.
