Covid-19 statement: Updated 09.11.20
Our safety is important. Following review of latest government and BACP guidance, I will be offering my counselling services to new clients by telephone. However, in exceptional circumstances for those whom telephone counselling may not be appropriate or possible, I am able to offer a Covid-secure environment for face-to-face counselling. In accordance with local and national guidelines and alongside other measures and protocols, counselling is offered in a large, well-ventilated room (allowing social distancing) in a professionally-managed clinical setting. Whilst risk cannot be eliminated entirely, I believe that the steps I, (and the clinic), have taken, allow us to work as safely as possible in current circumstances.
Do contact me if you would like to discuss.
About me and my therapy practice
As a person-centred counsellor, I believe that when offered a conducive therapeutic environment, you will begin to be able to think differently about the way you see yourself, the way you behave and ultimately the sense of meaning and fulfilment you find in your life. I am passionate about my work with all clients but have a special interest in men’s mental health and with anyone who is struggling to make sense of quarter (millennial) or mid-life change.
I hold an MA in Counselling and regularly attend professional training to stay up-to-date with latest ways of working with clients’ needs. I have attended training with Pink Therapy and Gendered Intelligence to help me in my counselling with clients who find it difficult to live with societal expectations of gender and sexuality.
I haven't always been a counsellor and bring whole life experience to my counselling work. I have worked on farms and a production line, been a company director, experienced redundancy and many other losses.
If you choose to work with me as your counsellor, I’ll sit with you in your turmoil, in your fear, in your hopes and in your dreams. I won’t tell you what to do. I won’t even claim to have the answers. But I will be by your side as you explore and seek resolution to the issues that have led you to seek counselling
Alongside my private counselling work, I also work with a city centre charity in Liverpool which gives me a broad experience of working with 18-80 year old clients with diverse counselling needs, including gender and sexual identity and psychiatric disorders.
At my discreet consulting room on Pensby Road in Heswall, I will offer you a confidential space where your worries and feelings can be listened to and explored without judgment. Whilst I normally charge £45 per session, either face-to-face or by telephone, concessionary rates will be considered.
Private parking is available in a private car park next to the clinic and there are nearby bus stops too.
My first session
When you first make contact with me I will suggest we start the process by talking on the telephone for 15 or 20 minutes so that we can 'meet' each other. If you then decide to make an appointment, I'll ask you to consider how we might formulate a working contract so that we both know what to expect of each other.
At your first session we will discuss how we might work together. I will not ask you to commit to a fixed number of sessions and how many you choose to attend is entirely up to you. But making sure that you feel comfortable with me as your counsellor is vital. You might not be sure straight away but after two or three sessions though, you will probably sense whether my approach is going to be effective for you personally.
