About me and my therapy practice
Hi I’m Pam, I am an experienced Child and Family Therapist. If you have a concern about your child’s emotional, social or behavioural development this is my speciality. I am a Play Therapist at my core amongst other types of therapy but this is at the heart of my work. Its my job to discover with you, what type of therapy or way of working will suit your current situation. I offer a free 30 minute consultation to explore together and find the support that feels right for you, your child and your family. This can be over the telephone or via an online video call. I hold at the centre of my work the therapeutic relationship and the gift of seeing and knowing my clients just as they are. As a Play Therapist I hold with great reverence the precious task of honouring the value of each individual I work with.
I have a degree in Psychology and have had further extensive training in Filial Therapy which is a way of working with you and your family and may resolve the need for your child to have one to one play therapy.
Practice description
Play Therapy
Play is the natural language of a child, with a range of creative tools, toys, movement, dance and music; children can express their feelings more easily than with words. Establishing a trusting therapeutic relationship with a Play therapist can support your child to resolve psychosocial difficulties or internal conflicts. Around 12 sessions is a base line for intervention for mild to moderate difficulties.
Filial Therapy
This therapy works with Parents and Carers to support, repair and strengthen the primary relationship. Filial supports you the Parents to become the agents for change within your own family and Parent-Child relationship utilising key Play Therapy skills. I recommend this type of therapy for around 14 sessions. This type of work can resolve the need for your child to have 1:1 sessions with a therapist.
Psycho-education
It maybe that you are seeking support, guidance and information. This could be to find a way through a current family conflict or as a preventative measure as you embark upon a new parenting journey. Popular words around at the moment are “therapeutic parenting, ‘Attachment focused’ and ‘Trauma informed’, but what does that look like and what do you need to know. I can offer a series (usually around 6) sessions of Psycho-education. This is an amalgamation of key theories, attachment, polyvagal; neuroscience, play therapy, therapeutic parenting and internal family systems (IFS) put into everyday language which is tailored to you and your families current dialogue.
