About me and my therapy practice
If you are thinking about counselling, it is very likely that life is causing you distress or is not fulfilling in the way that you would like it to be. You might be facing a life changing event like redundancy or bereavement, struggling in an intimate relationship, or suffering after a painful experience and feel that, on your own, you can’t find a solution. Or you might feel stuck and don’t know where you are going with your life.
This is where I can help. My experience as a therapist has shown me that our feelings of despair and hopelessness can be a catalyst for change and personal growth. By providing you with a supportive, trusting relationship - a safe space in which you can talk openly without judgment - together we can explore the things that are troubling you. And through gaining a better understanding of yourself, you can begin to make the changes you want towards a more meaningful and satisfying life.
The causes of our distress are not always obvious. They might be linked to difficult past events or habitual ways of thinking and acting that once served a purpose but which now prevent you from leading the life you desire. The wonderful thing about therapy is that, by working together, we can shine a light on the causes of your suffering to help you bring about long lasting, positive life-changes.
I trained at the Minster Centre, one of Europe’s leading counselling and psychotherapy training institutes, graduating with a BACP accredited Diploma in Integrative Counselling. I work according to the BACP Ethical Framework. I believe that no single therapeutic approach holds the answers for everyone. As an integrative therapist, I draw on several different schools of psychological theory to choose an approach that is specifically tailored to benefit you as a unique individual.
I have a B.A. Honours degree in Social Psychology from Sussex University and have had my work published in the Journal of Humanistic Psychology. Alongside my private practice, I have been a therapist at a London based counselling centre for women and at the Minster Centre's therapy service.
Before becoming a therapist I had a 25 year career in International Television Broadcasting. So I am aware of the demands of a challenging work environment and how this can impact on our well being. I am also a trained workplace conflict mediator.
The insights I have gained from my life experiences, my varied career and my therapeutic training make me well qualified to help you bring about changes that can make a real and lasting difference.
My first session
I offer a free initial phone consultation to give us the opportunity to get to a sense of each other. You will have the chance to ask any questions you have about me, and this will be an opportunity for me to find out more about you: what brings you to counselling, and what are you hoping to gain from it? What was your family history like? What are the significant events in your life, both in the past and in the present .
If we do decide to work together my fees are from £70.00 to £90.00 per 50 minute session, depending on your circumstances. Sessions are usually weekly.
Do contact me by email or by phone. If I am unavailable please leave a message with your name, contact number and a time when we can talk confidentially.
