About me and my therapy practice

Hi, I’m Nafeesa. I’m a warm and friendly qualified Counsellor and Psychotherapist with nearly 10 years’ experience of working with adults and children and young people.

Due to Covid-19, many people are feeling more anxious, depressed and need some additional support. Maybe you’re struggling with your work/life balance, family problems, issues surrounding your identity or perhaps you’ve lost a loved one or have anxieties about your health?

Maybe issues you have buried or been putting off addressing are coming up again? Maybe you’re just now finding the time to take the step to work through these?

If you’re going through this, you’re not alone. Many people are going through difficulties and there are people, like me, who can help.

I am passionate about offering a supportive and non-judgemental environment to people where they can exist, be heard and explore their issues. As a practitioner, I engage with the latest research and training and consistently develop my practice accordingly.

If you choose to work with me, you can expect a counsellor who is always warm, friendly and is passionate about supporting you to make the changes in your life that feel right for you. I am a strong advocate for racial and gender equality, believe in empowering people to find their voice to be heard and this is embedded into my practice affirmatively.

If you’re looking for a space that can give you this and feel ready to make a start, please do get in touch, I’d love to hear from you!

Practice description

I am trained in a range of counselling approaches, but ultimately I am a person-centred counsellor. This means that whilst I will bring my experience and skills to our sessions, the session is all about you and you will be treated as the expert in your own life. I will not attempt to diagnose you or judge you, I am there to support you in exploring your issues and addressing them in a way that works for you.

I have extensive experience working with adults, children and young people on specific issues relating to trauma and identity and I’ve worked with people of all ages, genders, sexualities, cultures and religions.

Due to my experience, I have advanced knowledge of complex issues such as domestic abuse, violence, addiction and mental health diagnosis. I also have experience working with people who are questioning their sense of belonging – be it through aspects of identity relating to culture, race, gender or sexuality.

Working in these areas, including with survivors of domestic abuse and children in care, I have an in-depth understanding of the issues people in complex situations are facing and how our relationships with ourselves and others can impact our mental wellbeing.
