My working days are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. I work from 10am until 7pm. I try to be as flexible as I can within those working times.
About me and my therapy practice
My primary modality of counselling of Humanistic Therapy. In this way I work with the focus on you and what you would like to work on. I believe you are the expert of your experiences, that your experiences are the truth and what ever you feel is valid and real.
I am also trained in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), which I use if you want to more practically tackle an issue you want to change. However, I understand it can possibly be a cold or frustrating way to work, so I do not run sessions with using in mind.
Certificate in Counselling Skills in Counselling Skills - University of Chichester - Chichester - September 2019 to May 2020
Diploma in Humanistic Counselling - University of Chichester - Chichester - September 2020 to September 2022
Bachelor's in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy - Eastleigh College - Eastleigh - September 2022 to June 2023
What you can expect from me as a counsellor is that I will first and foremost, I will listen to anything and everything, I will provide non-judgmental emotional support, and I will work with you in the most accommodating way I can.
Everyone has their own pace of working through things. Progress may feel slow, you may think that just talking to someone wouldn't be doing much.
There aren't many instances where you have space to know you are going to be listened to without any guilt thinking you may be burdening the other person.
If you feel just talking isn't enough and want to try something more direct, if you want to be questioned or challenged on your thoughts and feelings, if you want to try change a pattern of thinking, if you want suggestions or strategies to try. I will do my best to work with you in these ways within what I am trained to do.
Each session can and will be different. Not every session needs to be a massive breakthrough. Whatever you feel you need at the time of your session will be our focus.
My first session
I can offer for us to have a 30 minute conversation free of charge so we can have a more 'admin' chat and introduction. In this session, I can explain more about how I work and what ways I can offer to work with you. You may tell me about what issues you're having that have lead to seeking counselling. There will be discussions of the boundaries I adhere to that are also in the BACP guidelines. I will also send and discuss my contract with you.
Also it can be used to see if you feel you have a vibe with me and if I have one with you. I understand that a counsellor may be trained to help with many things, but if you don't feel you can have a therapeutic relationship with me, then I will not be offended if that means you want to search for another counsellor who you do vibe with more.
After this initial shorter session that will be free of charge, our next session will be a full 50 minutes and at full price, where we may go more in depth into the issues you want to discuss. In most cases, it may just be a session where you information dump and not a lot else is discussed. There will be a lot of history I don't know about you, and I will always be curious about, which may just be unloaded and left as is in the first session.
