About me and my therapy practice
Hello my name is Nicola and I am a qualified person-centred counsellor.
Counselling can help with a number of issues.

I am passionate about my work as a counsellor and pride myself on being approachable, genuine and empathic. I offer a safe, confidential space for you to talk about whatever is worrying you.
My non-directive approach means that you are in control of the sessions and will not be pressured to discuss anything you are not comfortable with. We will work together to create a trusting therapeutic relationship where you can explore your current thoughts and emotions without worrying about being judged. I will accept you for who you are. Having this space to express how you feel, with my use of person-centred interventions, can can help you to make sense of how you are feeling while gaining greater self-awareness and self-acceptance. This can support you in making positive changes within yourself, your life or your relationships.
I previously worked as a health care professional in the NHS for 18 years and have a wide range of experience of working with people with physical and mental health conditions. I developed a passion to train as a counsellor due to my own life events, a personal bereavement and interest in mental health. I have experienced first hand the benefits of counselling.
As well as my private practice, my experience in counselling work includes working as a volunteer counsellor at a cancer support service with clients living with cancer, their families and those who are bereaved.
I work at a mental health charity and support people who are in crisis. This has given me a wide variety of experience and a deeper understanding of mental health issues, the impact on clients and supporting those who have experienced trauma in their life.
I am a registered member of the BACP (British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy) and therefore work in accordance with their ethical framework and professional conduct procedure.

I have undertaken further training in areas including: online and telephone counselling (80 hours), emergency first aid at work – Level 3, covid-19 psychological first aid, working with suicide and self-harm, mental health and the body: treating trauma, bereavement and loss, HIV, safeguarding adults, safeguarding children, confidentiality and data protection.
My first session
I know how difficult it can be to take that first step and pick up the phone to enquire about counselling. I offer a free 15 minute consultation to give you chance to ask any questions or discuss any concerns, before deciding if you would like to book your first session. I will make this as comfortable as possible for you.
In the first session we would discuss what you would like to bring to counselling, your goals and what you are looking for in a counsellor. Finding someone you feel that you could build a trusting working relationship with is essential for you to benefit from counselling. We would talk through the counselling agreement and you can decide if you would like us to work together.
