About me and my therapy practice
Hello and a very warm welcome to you! People come to therapy for a variety of reasons. Perhaps you are experiencing difficulty with knowing what your feelings are. Or are struggling to express them. Alternately, you may be feeling very disconnected, unfulfilled or empty. Maybe you are confused about who you are, or what you want from life, and this prevents you from living in the moment. Are you trying to cope with a difficult life event, or is there just the sense that things are not right?
Typically, counselling and psychotherapy are forms of talking therapies that enable people to discuss their problems, worries and any difficult feelings they are experiencing, in a safe and non-judgemental environment. Therapy can mean different things to different people, but generally, it is something people seek when they want to change a certain aspect of their life, need support, or simply because they want to explore and understand their thoughts and feelings more closely. All of us are different and the tailored support offered to you will vary, dependant on your situation.
Therapy can help you to better manage and cope with a number of things, including issues with relationships, bereavement, anger, stress, depression and issues with self-esteem. Therapy can help with long-term physical health problems, difficult life events such as losing your job, divorce, trauma and many other issues. Sometimes, simply speaking to a professional can make all the difference. Friends may not always understand, whereas a counsellor and psychotherapist can offer understanding and provide clarity, while you speak in a safe, confidential space.
I provide a warm, human and professional service, in a safe and supportive, non-judgmental environment. I value your worth as an individual, which is expressed through my continued efforts to build a trusting, therapeutic relationship. I believe that this therapeutic relationship is a joint process, in which we work together to best meet your individual needs.
I work as an integrative counsellor. This means that I can combine ideas and insights, drawn from different counselling theories, in order to tailor sessions that will best support you. This approach supports my philosophy that each person is unique and that no single approach suits all. At no point will I tell you what to do.
By offering you understanding, respect and acceptance, together we can explore the issues that are important to you, so that we can work towards a more positive future. I have a straightforward, honest and caring attitude. My style of counselling, put simply, is about supporting you to gain perspective and understanding of how you think, feel and behave, how you approach difficulties in your life, and how you can feel more in control.
My first session
Call, email or text to schedule your first appointment. Whichever feels most comfortable for you. Sessions are 1 hour long and during our sessions together, you'll be able to come exactly as you are. It's perfectly normal to feel unsure at first, but this is an opportunity for you to share what's going on for you. Don't worry about getting stuck, or tongue-tied, I can always ask a few questions just to help you to get started. During our first session, you can tell me what your experiences have been like and if therapy were to go well, what you think you might be doing differently, as a result. This first session is so that we can explore how I can help you.
