About me and my therapy practice

As well as a Qualified therapist I am also a registered Social Worker. My background over the last 25 years has seen me work in education, social care and the voluntary sector. Through this I have learnt a great deal about different areas of work, the impact of systems and structures and the importance of viewing each person in the context of their own lives. Everyone has a story !

I work in a relaxed style. I wholly believe that everything is about relationships and as such it is important that we are able to build up a trusting working relationship so that you feel safe within your sessions to explore what you need.

Feedback has told me that I am quite dynamic as a therapist. Our sessions will focus on goal setting and identifying where you want to be in your life and how you can get there. Sometimes this might entail using creative ways of working, such as art materials, movement and challenging discussion to help us keep focussed on your outcome.

I have a particular interest in supporting professionals and school staff and feel my experience facilitates a broad understanding of the issues relating to this.

Practice description

Walk and talk is my favourite way of working. Locally I offer this in person, not locally I offer this over the phone where we will both walk in our own areas. Walk and Talk has many benefits. Firstly it gets us outdoors, breathing in the fresh air. The movement helps release endorphins, our feel good hormones and it reduces our levels of cortisol (stress hormones). This way of working is often viewed as less intense, it provides opportunities to be mindful in the area that you are walking. Research also shows it improves self esteem, mood and sleep quality.

In addition to this, I provide face to face sessions in your home if local or via zoom and telephone.

I try to offer as many options as possible. People are very busy these days and I know it can be hard to stop and take this time to work on yourself. This is a big decision and I like to work in a way that supports you being able to access what you need

My first session

During your first session, we will talk about what you are hoping for from counselling, why you have chosen now as the time to explore what is happening for you and how you would like to see things change in your life as a result of your work in sessions.

The sessions is relaxed and and introduction to each other

About me and my therapy practice

In addition to supervision for counsellors and Students I offer supervision to other professionals and volunteers - recognise the impact of your work - work/life balance - looking after the helpers

Practice description

I provide supervision counsellors 7 students as well as other professionals & volunteers in the helping professions across all sectors.  This can be offered on a 1-1 and group basis.

My background as a Counsellor and Social worker spans across health, education, social care and the voluntary sector.  I am passionate about the wellbeing of our staff groups who work in the helping professions everyday and often do not recognise the impact this has on their own wellbeing.

With Counsellors and students I aim to contract with you to provide supervision which meets the needs of you in the context in which you work. Every area is different and we have to acknowledge systemically the role this plays in our work with clients.

With those who are not qualified or training to become a counsellor, our supervision sessions will focus on the work you are undertaking, your work/life balance and the impact of your work on you as an individual yourself.  This serves to help you work from a clear purpose and focus with your staff, clients or patients.

We will begin at the beginning with what brought you to this work as a means of grounding your work and we will build from there to continually learn and develop from your experiences.

My first session

Your first session will focus on what you want to get out of supervision what your previous experience of supervision has been and how I can meet what your supervision needs at this point in time.
