About me and my therapy practice

I have experience of working with individuals, children and young people, couples, families and groups.  I also provide pet therapy with Trouble, my golden Labrador.

I have completed training to Postgraduate Diploma level in Person-centred Counselling with the University of Strathclyde, accredited by the BACP, Play Therapy, Couples and Family Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Neuro-linguistic Programming. I have a private practice based just outside Biggar, South Lanarkshire, and provide training and consultancy for various organisations throughout the UK.

Counselling can provide us with the opportunity to make sense of our experiences, both historical and present, and the painful emotions we can experience and the conflicts this can create. It can also be a great way to support our personal development. I aim to provide an opportunity to engage in a safe, confidential therapeutic relationship and for you to experience deep acceptance, understanding, warmth and compassion. This therapeutic relationship can support you make sense of things more freely and clearly, discover your own answers and solutions, as well as how to manage presenting difficulties or painful emotions in a more effective way, individual and unique to you.

Practice description

I have acquired vast experience of working with individuals, couples and families for varying difficulties and issues. Working within a GP surgery, LGBT Youth, a voluntary organisation specialising in trauma and abuse, and third sector organisations working with families affected by a loved one’s substance use and bereavement, the clients I work with are of varying ages, backgrounds and genders.

As a person-centred counsellor, I work with what you bring into the counselling room. Trained in person-centred counselling, this underpins my therapeutic work with clients, along with an integrative approach.

Working with an integrative approach means drawing on different therapies and combining these along with a person-centred approach, tailored around each individual client’s needs and unique circumstances. What works for one person, may not for the other, so an integrative approach supports me to provide a safe, confidential and individualised therapeutic space, providing the opportunity for individuals, couples and families to share and explore what is causing emotional difficulties, inner conflicts and causing disharmony within themselves and/or within their relationships and lives.

Counselling sessions last for one hour and can be face-to-face at my private practice just outside Biggar, South Lanarkshire, a home visit, over the telephone or via Zoom, FaceTime, Skype or other virtual means.

The number of sessions each client attends depends on each individual and their circumstances, with some clients attending for around six sessions, and others working with me for several years to continue their personal development.
