About me and my therapy practice
I am an experienced psychodynamic counsellor & psychotherapist (BACP & BPC registered) working with all ages of adults on a one to one basis from my peaceful and private consulting room in Charlbury, Oxfordshire. I have a wide experience including working with relationships, anxiety, depression, panic attacks, bereavement & loss, trauma and self worth. Counselling can also be of help to those who have experienced loss of meaning in their lives or for those seeking a deeper understanding of themselves and their relationships.
Following official guidance regarding the coronavirus pandemic, I have not been seeing clients in my consulting rooms for much of this year. I am continuing to see clients using the Zoom or Skype online platforms or by FaceTime or phone and I am still accepting new clients. I am now also seeing some clients for face to face sessions from my consulting room in Charlbury when we are not in a lockdown situation.
As a qualified psychodynamic therapist I will work with you in a non-directive way so that together we can explore what is troubling you.
The feelings, thoughts and experiences that you struggle with today may well be connected to the situations or relationships you find yourself in now but may also be linked to your past experiences which may have been forgotten or unresolved and may be having a powerful influence on the way you think and feel now.
We can explore together how underlying emotional issues may be impacting on you and your relationships. As this understanding is gained, it can be very freeing, allowing you to find fresh and creative ways to approach your life.
How long does therapy last?
I usually work in an open-ended way which means that we will not fix the number of sessions at the start. We will continue until you feel ready to end. This may be a few weeks or months; some clients choose to have therapy for several years.
I can also work in a time-limited way, usually 6 to 12 sessions which we agree at the start. Some people find this helpful if this is their first experience of counselling. it can also be effective in dealing with recent onset difficulties such as bereavement, relationship breakdown or redundancy.
We meet on a weekly basis with clients having either one or two sessions a week depending on their needs. The sessions are usually at the same time and on the same day(s) each week and sessions last for 50 minutes.
My first session
I use this first session as an assessment - an exploration of why you are coming now, what you are hoping for from therapy, your present situation and your past history. It is also an opportunity for you to decide whether I am the right therapist for you and for us to think about how your needs can best be met.
