About me and my therapy practice

"Supervision is a collaborative process in which the supervisor works with the supervisee to explore work reflectively...…..Fundamental to relationship is good rapport and a working alliance" ( Schick & Wood, 20011, p15)

The supervision model I use is Hawkins and Shohet's (2206) '7 eyed supervisor model' It is a process model that has seven focuses

1. The first focus is on the supervisee's client work, how and what the client presents

2. The second focus is on the strategies and interventions used by the supervisee. The main goal of this focus is to increase the supervisee's choices and skills in intervention

3. The third focus is on the relationship and working alliance between the client and supervisee

4. The fourth focus in on the supervisee, to explore their reaction to the client and what the supervisee may be projecting onto the client

5. The fifth focus is on the supervisory relationship. This is important in two respects; firstly to ensure regular attention is given to the quality and working alliance between supervisor and supervisee and secondly to explore the possibility that what is happening in the relationship between supervisor and supervisee is mirroring what is happening in session between client and supervisee

6. The sixth focus is on the supervisors own process

7. The seventh focus is on the ethical, cultural, gender, nationality, age&  society in which the work takes place

About me and my therapy practice

Coming to counselling is a big decision, you may feel unable to move forward with a particular difficulty are or you may be part of a couple stuck in patterns of behaviour that are ruining your relationship. You may feel that Cognitive Behavioural Therapy will help you manage overwhelming feelings such as anxiety or low mood or you may just want to talk things through with someone. Whatever the circumstances, I will provide a confidential, caring and productive counselling relationship in which you will feel emotionally supported. I am an accredited counsellor and psychotherapist with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy. Accreditation enables clients to recognise proven and competent practitioners, meaning that the selection of a therapist can be based on an informed choice rather than speculation. I have also been trained in relationship work by Relate and I am an accredited couple’s counsellor. I am also a qualified supervisor and supervise other counsellors and trainees I have a wide range of experience; I have worked for Relate and the NHS working with all types of relationships and a range of issues including low mood, anxiety, abuse, work related issues and more. I also have over 10 years’ experience working with addictions. My approach to counselling is eclectic; a variety of approaches to the work are used as and when appropriate and in collaboration with you, the client. My practice is underpinned in the Person Centred approach, therefore at the centre of the counselling relationship is my regard for and acceptance of the individual. I work with individuals & couples from home in a comfortable dedicated counselling ground floor room in Blackpool. I offer an initial 30 minute consultation free of charge to enable you to find out whether I am the right counsellor/supervisor for you. Counselling sessions last for 50 minutes and supervision sessions for 90 minutes. Please don't hesitate to email me if you have any questions
