About me

Alexandra Mync BA (Hons), MSc, BPC- accredited DIT Therapist, MBACP registered, MUPCA

I’m a registered psychotherapist providing counselling and psychotherapy to adults in the areas of north west and central London. Sessions are offered face-to–face, online or by telephone.

Training, qualifications & experience

Over the past fifteen years, I have worked delivering individual and group psychotherapeutic treatment in the NHS, the charitable sector as well as privately. In recent years, my work has been primarily psychodynamic. However, my original psychotherapy training has also enabled me to work in an integrative way. This means that I’m able to draw upon ideas and theories from several schools of thought in response to the different needs of each person I work with.

Alongside my private practice, I have considerable experience of teaching, training and supervision, having provided training and supervision both in the NHS and several charitable organisations such as Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors Without Borders. Currently, I teach on psychodynamic psychotherapy training at Highgate Counselling Centre.

I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP); a member of the Universities Psychotherapy and Counselling Association (UPCA); I am accredited with the British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC) as DIT Therapist.

I am guided by and adhere to both BACP and UKCP codes of ethics and professional conduct.

Practice description

The therapy and why you may want to consider it

People who seek therapy are grappling with a wide variety of issues and life events. Sometimes, it may be helpful to navigate these accompanied by a therapist.

Therapy, or the so -called ‘talking cure’, provides people with a safe space to talk openly about how they are really feeling and to better understand what might be causing their difficulties. By putting words to one’s experience and feelings new understanding and meaning can emerge. Offering the triad of my experience, knowledge and being, I will listen to your felt experience and work with you on finding a way forward.

Therapy can help clients find or strengthen trust in their own experience. Seeing the client as their own expert, I aim to be responsive to your own internal resources and experiencing on any level. Our work together is also likely to encompass explorations around the source of your challenges or distress.

The therapy process is centred around a unique dialogue between the therapist and the client, which evolves over time. This process aims to facilitate wellbeing and growth. In so doing it can lead to, for example, certain clarity, strength and a sense of momentum around what steps, if any, you might choose to take next.


My first session

What might you come to me for?

It may be about something, which is currently troubling you and causing distress, or simply about your personal development.

I work with people facing a wide range of challenges and feelings that are difficult to manage. You may be feeling low, stuck or carrying with you nagging anxiety. You may be feeling low in confidence, lacking self-worth or purpose. You might be adjusting to change e.g. embarking on something new in your life, or things that are familiar to you are coming to an end. You might be dealing with loss or find that your relationships are consistently a problem for you, whether with family, at work or romantic ones. The difficulty might be that you don’t seem to maintain relationships, or feel you always give more and get little back, or that you feel repeatedly abandoned, or judged, or you have a history of being in conflict with people, etc.

Sometimes, it might be difficult to name what you feel or to put a finger on the issue you want to address. It might be about a problem that is getting in the way of you living the life you want to live, or about finding a turning point in your life.

Initial session

This will last 50 minutes and give us an opportunity to meet and develop as good a picture as we can of what you’re finding difficult in your life, and how this is affecting you. Based on this, we can begin thinking about what would be most helpful for you. This is also an opportunity for you to ask any questions you would like and to agree with your therapist about what you’re looking to gain out of the therapy.

I believe that it is important to find the right person to work with and to explore the potential fit. Although my training and qualifications are important, it comes down to whether we feel we can build on our initial meeting.
