About me and my therapy practice
I help people to understand why they are thinking & feeling the way they do and then help them to change .
Parts of our brain often learn to beat us up, ruminate over conversations, jump to the worse case scenario, mind read, scan for danger etc. This causes fear & shame etc to build up, flooding our body with anxiety hormones. When our feelings & body feel uncomfortable we may reach for a beer, food or our phone to numb/comfort etc. Then a part of our brain beats us up for doing so, this creates more feelings etc and we get stuck in a vicious circle.
By understanding these parts of ourselves we can learn a new way of being. We can think more rationally, process our feelings and respond differently in the moment.
If you want to get a flavour of my work then check out my book: 'But I Should Be Fine: How to gain relief from anxiety, overthinking and pesky self-doubt'
Practice description
I completed my first introduction to counselling twenty years ago and have learnt many theories along the way. I'm an integrative therapist which means I integrate these theories in the best way to help my client. I love 'Internal Family Systems' which is parts work and also find aspects of CBT, Humanistic theories and psycho-education very helpful for working with anxiety.
