During the COVID lock-down I am offering counselling by telephone, FaceTime, Skype and WhatsApp. However should you wish to change to Face to Face counselling once the lock-down is lifted I am flexible and will have no problem working around times that are mutually convenient.
Your feelings of safety are very important.
About me and my therapy practice
Welcome to the Green Door Counselling
My name is Mary-Kate and my ethos is that everyone deserves to be heard. There are times when it helps to talk to someone who really listens. At The Green Door Counselling I offer one-to-one sessions in a caring and confidential environment. You will be welcomed with compassion, impartiality and warmth. I will sit with you in a calm and understanding manner and together we will explore any issues that may be of concern to you. There is no hurry within the sessions, they are yours and you set the pace. It is essential that you are comfortable and feel valued. Your self-worth is important.
I am a registered member of the BACP, working toward accreditation, qualified with a Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling. I am fully insured and adhere to the BACP Ethical Framework.
My experience before opening my private practice was with Mosaic 2 in Bradford in both counselling and mental health roles. There I supported survivors, their family and friends, who presented with varying issues as a result of sexual abuse. I gained experience working with both male and female clients.
Presently, along with my private work, I am employed by a women focused organisation supporting survivors of domestic and sexual abuse and the associated presenting issues.
I am trained as a person-centred counsellor which means that you, as the client, are at the very centre of your experience through The Green Door. You will be heard and respected without fear of judgement and embarrassment. I am not here to diagnose or advise you but together we can address your concerns and work out what you feel is best for you. It is important for you to know that no one knows you better than yourself.
Make yourself matter – Together we can make a difference
My first session
Once you have e mailed me. I'll phone you and we'll have a brief discussion to see whether you feel what I offer at The Green Door Counselling is what you are after. If we feel we can work together, I'll explain a working agreement between you and me and will mail you a copy to read, sign and return. If you require remote counselling we will take this opportunity to ensure that our technology is working. I'll look forward to us meeting at an agreed time.
In welcoming you to your first session, I'll explain 'the housekeeping' to you and answer any questions you might have. I know the idea of counselling can be daunting but want you to know the mere fact that you find yourself in your first session is an immensely brave step. I'll explain confidentiality and boundaries within counselling as these are most important and feed into your safety and feelings of security. Once we are mutually satisfied that you understand and are happy with what the counselling process offers I'll invite you to make yourself matter because together we will make a difference.
