About me and my therapy practice

Hi, Im Ally and I am a Person-Centred Therapist who also offers EMDR, REWIND and Clinical Hypnotherapy.

For the past 6 years I have worked mainly in an organisation which supports survivors of sexual violence, however in my private practice I work with a range of mental health difficulties including mild-moderate anxiety and depression, body image, relationship issues, stress, exam and work related issues as well as a number of general wellbeing struggles for individuals aged 16 and above.

I provide a non-judgemental, open, transparent and supportive environment for my clients and hold a focus on going at your pace with your particular needs in mind. I am able to adapt my person-centred approach to solution focused modalities when required in a way which feels comfortable for my client.

I believe that the most important element of therapeutic work is building a relationship based on trust and safety first and foremost, whereby my clients can explore a wide range of issues without fear of judgement and knowing that they are totally in control of their own therapeutic journey.

Starting therapy can be difficult for anyone, and I understand that the first step is the most important. Feel free to contact me and we can have a quick chat to discuss any concerns or questions you have about starting your new journey!

Practice description

In my practice I will normally begin with an introductory/ assessment session where we will go through a number of documents including contract agreement and whatever psychometric scales suit your particular goals of therapy. This helps to guide where to begin with sessions and what problems may be occurring that could need attention. This is also an opportunity for you to get a feel for me as a therapist and whether or not you feel you comfortable; this being the most important element of successful therapeutic work. These assessments are optional, and if you prefer to sit and chat to get a feel for things that's not a problem. Sessions following from this will normally take a person centred format, as we get to know one another and I can understand your personal goals and history. This can help to create an environment where you are free to discuss anything that you wish, and I can use my skills and experience to guide you through exploring your emotions and experiences and work towards resolving any current issues or relieve emotional distress. As and when it is necessary, I will discuss with my clients where I can identify particular symptoms of difficulties which may respond well to more solution focused techniques such as REWIND, EMDR or hypnotherapy. If you are happy to try these out then we can build towards this; however sessions can also remain personal centred if you feel this is working best for you.
