About me and my therapy practice
I started training as a counsellor in 2009 and qualified in 2013, but have been volunteering in the field of mental health, particularly with organisations which help people experiencing difficulties with food and weight, for over a decade. In my general practice I have experience supporting clients with a wide range of concerns, but eating disorders/distress, neurodevelopmental conditions such as autism or ADHD, anxiety, depression, relationship issues and trauma are the most common areas I work with. I also have experience of counselling in a local high school, seeing students with a variety of worries including low mood, exam stress, sexuality and racially motivated bullying, self harm and abuse issues.
I welcome and aim to practice in an affirmative way with clients who identify as gender or sexually diverse, including but not limited to people who identify as one or more of binary or non-binary trans, queer, lesbian, gay, bisexual, pansexual, asexual, and poly.
I see clients at a quiet health centre a five minute walk from Four Lane Ends interchange, and sessions are £45 for 60 minutes. I do occasionally have concessionary places - these are currently full, but do feel free to check with me.
I am committed to continuing professional development. Since finishing my counselling degree, I have completed courses on topics such as autism in women, sexual abuse, and structural dissociation, and have gained two Masters in Psychology (MSc and MRes). In September 2018 I started a PhD on the impact of trauma on autistic people with Newcastle University.
