About me and my therapy practice

Hello, my name is Trevor, I am a counsellor based in Harrogate, North Yorkshire. I offer friendly, confidential online and telephone counselling for adults and young adults. I work with all genders. I tailor my approach to suit your needs from experience in a wide range of issues including anxiety, depression, sadness, stress and relationship concerns.  I have experience in a variety of settings, including the NHS and Furth Education college settings.

Sometimes, we get to places in our lives that are hard and, understandably, we feel what some call being ‘out of sorts’ or maybe ‘not myself’.  Maybe it is something like feeling sad. It can be hard to know why we feel that way, yet, our experience can leave us feeling isolated. At times, it is hard to talk about things that feel overwhelming, or like they don’t make sense. Perhaps you feel you would like this to change, but you are not sure who to turn to? Maybe you would feel like a burden to your loved ones, or as if they would not understand? What you feel matters and, together, I hope we are able to  explore what that means for you, even if we don't have the right words for it yet.

Within my one-to-one counselling sessions, I offer a space for you and your needs, without judgment. I see people on a weekly basis and through listening and exploring, I get to know what it is like in your world. We can explore and make sense of what is going on for you and, together, find the right direction for you to get the most out of our time. I offer short term (6-20 sessions) and open-ended therapy, depending on the best fit for you. We can work together to decide this as we progress on our journey too.

Practice description

What you need matters. Our sessions will be paced in a way you feel comfortable and not exposed or overwhelmed. Sometimes, talking is helpful. Other times, it may be that you would like to engage in goal orientated tasks, mindfulness or creative activities. It is important to me that I help facilitate our time together in a way most useful to you. What you take from therapy after each session matters. By working together, I hope for your outcomes to be sustainable and empowering.

My approach places my appreciation of your individuality at the centre of our work. We will tailor your therapy to you and your individual needs. I am committed to equality and diversity- everything that makes you, you, are key ingredients to our therapy

I am currently seeing clients online using Zoom and over the phone. Technology can sometimes be daunting, which is why I am happy to help with any queries you may have around setting up and meeting for our sessions.

If you feel I can be of help to you please reach out, by email and I will get back to you as soon as I can.

My first session

We will have an initial free 30-minute call so we can explore if my counselling approach is right for you. It is so important that your therapist is the right fit for your needs, so we will explore if counselling is right for you and what other options there may be for you if it isn't.

We will explore what you may need from your counselling and how I could be alongside you in that. We can explore any aims or outcomes you may have and how we might work towards them together. It will also be a space where you can offer any concerns you have about counselling, too.

Clients generally reserve the same time for their counselling each week. Our first session will be an opportunity to explore the best times for you and how to ensure you have a safe, private space to access our sessions.

There will be time to answer any questions you may have about the counselling process, should you have any, too.

Once we have finished out call, there will be time for you to reflect and decide if my counselling approach is right for you. There is no obligation to decide during our call together. If you do decide to continue with me, we will then arrange a first session to begin our counselling journey together.
