About me and my therapy practice
- I offer a confidential safe container in my home or on Zoom for you to explore any mental health issues that you are experiencing. As a qualified psychotherapist you will find that I am non judgemental, and can offer both empathy and compassion. At a pace determined by you, we will work creatively together as you move towards being the best version of yourself. The journey might involve gaining insights into yourself, and how you relate to your enviroment. However it may be that you just want someone to listen and validate your experience.
- I am first and foremost an integrative therapist and draw on Person-centred, Psychodynamic, Gestalt, Solution and Internal Family Systems (IFS) approaches, the latter of which I have a Level 2 in. I am also a qualified and accredited Level 2 Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) practitioner and have found this form of energy healing to work well in conjunction with these approaches. This is also a beneficial resource that you would be able to utilise in between sessions if you so wished.
- In order to develop professionally I stay abreast of emerging psychological, social and neurobiological research findings. I also engage in frequent CPD training and have been a Programme Assistant on the Level 1 IFS training. I have regular one to one and group supervision which helps to inform my practise.
Practice description
You may have noticed that you have different parts to you and may recall or have heard others say something like ‘part of me wants to go out and get some fresh air and part of me wants to stay in and watch a film’ or ‘part of me wants to stay in the relationship and part of me wants to leave it.’ These parts, as the examples show, think in various ways and believe in different things (like the members of a family!) and often battle within us because of this. By understanding what these parts’ intentions are and how they’ve come to work with us in the way that they do, we can feel more connection, compassion and curiosity towards them and thus move towards a more trusting relationship where they no longer hijack, overwhelm and control us. We can unburden them of the negative beliefs that they carry.
Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a neurobiological and mindfulness based approach. It is non pathological, and goes beyond just coping and managing feelings and emotions. Instead it can steer us towards harmonising and reintegrating the parts of our inner system (that became fragmented earlier on in our lives,) where they work for us in a more positive way. This can show up as us in self leadership and being considerably more at ease in the world.
My first session
I offer an initial consultation of 30 minutes which would cost £20. In this meeting I would learn about what brings you to therapy, and whether you would be seeking to work in the short or long term. Short term work would normally last between 6 to 12 sessions. This might be more goal specific, with a focus on more immediate issues. With long term work we would explore deep rooted issues, for example childhood traumas. Additionally we would discuss whether working integratively or using a pure IFS approach would be right for you. Above all the initial meeting is a chance for us to see if we could be a good match.
Integrative therapy sessions last for 50 minutes and cost £45.
Pure IFS sessions last between 1 hour and 1hour 15 minutes and cost £65.
