About me and my therapy practice
My approach to therapy is underpinned by offering a warm non-judgemental place to explore whatever has brought you to therapy, a place to say the un-sayable and think the un-thinkable. I aim to work with my clients to help them find the best ways forward, whatever the issue, based on their own lifetime of experience, who they are and what they want
I attended the Metanoia Institute in West London where I qualified as a person centred therapist. My experience has largely been in the NHS, supporting clients referred by GPs with a broad range of presenting issues including anxiety, depression, work stress, abuse, family relationship issues, bereavement, small trauma, sexuality and identity, issues relating to age and life direction and employment. I am also qualified as a management coach and workplace mediator and have practised in large national organisations.
I also spent a lot of time working in the addictions field with clients who had a range of issues alongside their addictions including obsessive compulsive disorders, personality dissorders, Schizo affective disorders, psychosis and issues relating to homelessness and sex work. It was during this time I acquired a qualification in Motivational Interviewing, a style of communication designed to help clients and therapists understand the elements of behaviour change.
First and foremost, research shows that the success of any therapy is based on the relationship between a therapist and a client. For that reason, the first session I offer is an assessment designed to understand the issues and aims for therapy and to give clients (and myself) an idea of how we might work together. If you'd like to ask any further questions please do give me a call or drop me an email and we can go from there.
