About me and my therapy practice
I am an experienced Integrative Counsellor and have been working with individuals aged 18 and over, and couples for over 17 years, supporting many people to grow and improve their lives. Above all I provide a safe space where you can explore what's worrying you.
Due to Covid-19 I am offering most Counselling sessions remotely for the foreseeable future, with a small number of face-to-face sessions available where my Covid safety measures are agreeable.
All Couples sessions will be held online as my Counselling room is no longer suitable for 3 adults.
If you choose to start Counselling with me we will work with whatever is on your mind and be guided by you - your feelings and your story. We will agree a number of sessions at the start and check in with each other regularly to make sure your needs are being met. You will never have to talk about things you don't feel ready to talk about. I like to work creatively if it suits you, although some clients prefer not to - it's about what works best for you. I can offer to be alongside you in that time as a supportive, empathetic, gently challenging and compassionate companion.I have several years of experience of working with clients and supervisees by telephone and various online platforms.
Practice description
During Covid-19 I am mostly working remotely, although I may also see a limited number of individual clients in my practice room at home. There is plenty of parking and it's about a 10 minute walk from the bus stop at the main road or a 30 minute walk from Nailsea and Backwell train station. I don't have a waiting room here, so it's better to arrive as close to our agreed starting time as possible.
I started my training as an Integrative Counsellor at the City of Bristol College and went on to complete an MSc in Counselling at the University of Bristol. I am also a qualified Supervisor of Counsellors with a CPCAB Certificate in Counselling Supervision. I trained as a couples therapist at Exeter University and through Interaction Training, and have also worked with couples in groups for a number of years. I have worked with a wide range of clients over the past 17+ years and spent some years volunteering as a Counsellor at a local agency for those who can't afford a private Counsellor. I have seen clients for some very short term work as well as for a number of years. I believe that you as client know best what you need from this process and we will be guided by you in choosing the time to end our work together.
Other experience. As well as working in private practice as a Counsellor and Supervisor of other Counsellors, I spent a number of years training Counsellors at the City of Bristol College and University of Bristol. More recently I worked as a Counsellor and Lead Psychological Therapist at Penny Brohn UK, a national cancer charity based locally that supports those with a cancer diagnosis and their close supporters. For 4 years, until the end of August 2020, I ran Wellspring Counselling based in Nailsea, a local affordable Counselling charity. I have a number of years of experience before training as a Counsellor, in both education and the world of finance and business.
My first session
If we are working in my room at home, I will explain my Covid safety measures beforehand. These are in line with Government guidelines although there may be some continuing measures to ensure both our safety as we will be working in a relatively small space together for 50 minutes.
During the first session, we will spend some time completing some forms together to help me understand a bit more about you and your needs. Some of this can be done by email beforehand if you prefer, while sessions are being held remotely. We will talk about how Counselling might be helpful for you and some of the things we need to agree together to support the sessions in working well for you.
I'll ask you to tell me about what you're hoping for from Counselling and some of the story of what has brought you into Counselling. I hope this will help me to start to understand your needs better and for you to get a sense of if we are a good fit.
You can then decide if you would like to continue sessions.
Please note that the session fee for an individual is £55, for couples £65

About me and my therapy practice
I am an experienced Integrative Relational Counsellor and Supervisor and have been working with individuals aged 18 and over, for over 17 years and couples for over 8 years. After many years of working with trainees and newly qualified Counsellors, I am in the process of reshaping my Supervision practice and will no longer be taking on Supervisees who fit into these categories.
Supervision during Covid-19. I am offering most Supervision sessions remotely for the foreseeable future, with a small number of sessions held face-to-face where my Covid safety measures are agreeable.
How I work. If you choose to start Supervision with me we will work with whatever is on your mind and be guided by you - your clients, level of experience, your feelings and your story. I believe that as in the therapeutic relationship with clients, we take much of ourselves into the work. In Supervision I value getting to know about my Supervisees - who they are and what matters to them, creating a space where all things that may be relevant to client work can be discussed openly and safely. I enjoy working creatively when it feels appropriate if it suits you too.
I have several years of experience of working with clients and Supervisees by telephone and various online platforms.

My first session
We will agree the Covid safety measures beforehand if working in the room together. These are in line with Government guidelines. In addition there may be some extra measure to keep us both safe as we will be working together in a relatively small space for at least an hour.
We will spend some time in our first session completing some forms together, discussing how we will work together and any boundaries that need clarifying around this.
I will also hope to find out about you and your practice, what your hopes and needs are and to spend some time working on establishing if we are a good fit.
