I have many years experience working with adults of all ages and presenting with a wide variety of difficulties. This includes 14 years working short term in a university counselling service, 23 years working medium and long term in private practice and 20 years medium and long term in a local clinic.

The first step is to help you decide what changes you want to make. The approaches I use will depend on what you want out of the sessions: whether you want to cope better with a current difficulty or whether you feel some difficulties may go back a long way into the past. It can be helpful to explore how we may repeat patterns which do go back and may limit our choices, our vitality and our satisfaction with our lives. 

The first session is an information gathering session and allows us both to experience what it would be like to work together: to see if I feel I can help you and to see whether you feel comfortable talking to me. It can feel very daunting to think of sharing personal information with someone you don’t know but I’m often told that I’m easy to talk to and that I create a space which feels warm, supportive and safe. The rate for the initial session is the same as for other sessions.

I have over 20 years experience as a therapist and supervisor working in private practice, a local charitable clinic and for 14 years as a counsellor and supervisor in a university counselling service. I also facilitated two long term analytic therapy groups for students.

My core training as a therapist and a supervisor is psychodynamic but I have completed other short trainings in CBT, person- centred and existential therapy. I also completed a year’s training in Group Analytic Work.
