About me and my therapy practice

I am an experienced psychotherapist of 20 years, including the NHS, emergency services, universities, and private practice, employment assistance programs, providing training and specializing in grief, bereavement, early childhood trauma and those moving through difficult transitions in life. I work with individuals, couples and groups.

I work with the navigation and complexity around identity and belonging, and life transitions to integrate those neglected parts of ourselves into awareness of choice, expression and growth. Therapy is a way to re-discover and develop new pathways which are less compromised by past patterns and traumatic incidences.

Sometimes, we might experience early in our lives, an attachment issue with one or both parents. This may have involved neglect, abuse, or absence. This can predispose vulnerabilities throughout our lifespan. Therapy helps us gain tools to manage crises, relationship difficulties, self-esteem and resilience to help us find validation, and a sense of agency and resilience.

I empower people to find solutions to their personal situations and challenges on their journey through life, and to undergo positive life transformations. I support them through difficult stages in their lives such as divorce and separation, loss and bereavement, midlife crises, identity and belonging, and early childhood trauma.

Areas I cover include:

Issues of difference: 'Belonging & Identity' & trauma

Bereavement and loss, and transgenerational trauma

Absent fathers: The effects of abandonment, neglect and intimacy.

Life transitions- Re-focusing your life, creating new opportunities.

Practice description

Welcome

I am an integrative psychotherapist and tranined in mnay modalties. I provide an holistic and solution-based form of therapy using a blend of trauma-based sensitive mindfulness and psychotherapy. I work with people who are affected and challenged by adversity and have suffered major life changes and challenges.

I am based in Chichester and work with adults, couples and families online or face-to-face, on both short and long term contracts dealing with loss, trauma and mid-life crises. I work with separation and loss; in addition to issues of belonging, life transition and midlife crises.

In particular, I work with issues resulting from an absent father syndrome. Many adults carry long-established traumas from childhood, and may know when it's time to explore this in therapy. Particularly when it may be affecting your health and adversely impacting on your close relationships. At times this may present itself as anger, self-harm, withdrawal and lack of motivation.

My first session

I offer both short term and longer-term counselling and psychotherapy depending on your needs; and help people work through many forms of loss, trauma and crisis. I work with a range of issues, in particular those with disruptive attachment during adolescence influenced by the impact and legacy of those with absent fathers and other traumas and adversity issues.

I work collaboratively with you, helping you to gain a sense of agency around your current difficulty. My work is supervised regularly, and I continue to keep abreast with new developments and research within the field of mental health and well-being which further informs my practice.

Qualified as an integrative counsellor and psychotherapist from Roehampton University, my primary counselling models are psychodynamic, humanistic, mindfulness, and cognitive. I have 20+ years of experience, including within the NHS (focussing on bereavement and trauma), higher education, the private sector (Employment Assistance Programmes, the Life Centre (rape crisis) and emergency services) and in private practice, helping people get their lives back after serious life events, trauma, anxiety and depression.
