About me and my therapy practice
I am a very conscientious and intuitive individual whose ability to be attuned to the individual person stems from my 4 years of studying, volunteering, my work as a registered British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) counsellor, and my lived experiences.
As a counsellor, I have co-facilitated and developed an African-Caribbean women's therapeutic group. The group was designed to build self-esteem among women of colour (Mind, Greenwich). This has enabled me to work creatively while demonstrating receptive and adaptable thinking, as well as being aware of the needs of the individual within the group and how to maintain group focus. I have also worked with other establishments such as the Gay Men Interaction Partnership, Southwark Bereavement Care, and Newham Action Against Domestic Violence.
My methodology is eclectic and integrative in that I am flexible in my approach to counselling. This gives me the freedom to use the method of counselling that best suits the client. My preferred method or style of working involves person-centered, psychodynamic, gestalt, cognitive behavioural therapy, and transpersonal counselling.
In theory, I believe that a person's past has a significant impact on their present. However, there are situations and things in the present that are at the forefront of the individual's awareness and may impede them from resolving underlying worries. It is essential to work with the individual from a person-centred theoretical perspective while applying Gestalt therapy skills and learning to support the individual to move at a reasonable pace that is comfortable to support gentle challenges, thus enabling the client to move their process forward.
As an integrative psychotherapist, I am not restricted to any one field of psychological therapy and will be driven by the needs of each client. Depending on the needs of the client, I may also use imagery and transpersonal counselling in this area.
Practice description
I am a counsellor with Afro-Caribbean ancestry. My therapeutic approach is eclectic and integrative, drawing inspiration from various theoretical frameworks, including psychodynamic, Gestalt, and cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT). Bereavement, grief, and loss in diverse spheres of life, including identity, loved ones, health, and relationships, are my areas of expertise.
My first session
The first session is free and lasts 50 minutes, but it can be shorter depending on your comfort level. The initial session is an assessment, which gives us both the opportunity to get to know each other's style of working and to set goals and pace for consecutive sessions.
