About me and my therapy practice
Counselling can offer shelter from the storm; a space outside of everyday routine that is safe, protected and trustworthy enough to be true to ourselves within.
It takes courage to enter counselling and so I move forward with you at your own pace. I don’t have a ‘one-size-fits-all’ set of answers: I do have a strong practice of careful, deep and empathic listening alongside a gentle belief that as we build trust between us and risk being ourselves in our different roles, then real change can gradually unfold. Change that comes from within is priceless and more precious than any instructions handed to us by someone outside ourselves. But you are not alone: it is my role to provide all the conditions needed to make counselling a space you can trust enough to explore and discover your feelings, experiences and choices. Whilst listening I will sometimes offer potential guidance, insights and reflections that come from my continued passion for learning about human growth and psychological- healing; but my insights are second place to your own and my first priority is to carefully and attentively work to understand without judgement and with compassion you as an individual, with your own personal story and unique way of being.
“Upon the dark road you are travelling, do not seek out the light, the illusion, the fallacy and incessant need for all things external. Have no fear, take the darkness as your comfort because you are the light shining in the dark. You just need to find the spark”(L.J. Vanier).
I entered the counselling process as a client in my youth struggling to maintain a sense of hope. It took time to discover, nurture and learn how to maintain the spark of hope and strength I grew within; it is, for all of us an ongoing search. There is nothing I would rather be doing with my time than offering others the time and space to be supported in finding and fueling their own spark.
