About me and my therapy practice
I am a Child Centred Play Therapist who works with children who struggle with emotional and behavioural difficulties. Sessions are led by the child, ensuring that they are the main focus when making decisions about themselves and ensuring that the child is always at the centre when working alongside the parents/carers.
Practice description
If you as a parent/carer feel that you would benefit from some guidance around how to support your child's behaviours, then please get in touch. I support children and their families in the following areas:
Play Therapy/Creative Arts: Children find it difficult to verbally express their thoughts and feelings. Sometimes their experiences are too painful for them to talk about and so through the language of play, I facilitate an environment that is safe and nurturing to the child, which gives them the freedom to express themselves freely with the use of toys. The child has the option to use puppet, paints, sand, movement, music, drama, to help make sense of their world around them. Play Therapy works best face to face with children and young people and I have a space based in Lymm.
Therapeutic Parenting and Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy: I work with children and young people who have been heavily impacted by Developmental Trauma and support adoptive parents and carers around the challenges they face when trying to support their child in times of distress. Due to the trauma that these children have experienced in their lives, it makes it extremely difficult for them to connect and form a relationship with those who are trying to provide the nurture and care that they need. I support families in healing the relationship and introducing a more therapeutic approach as a way of helping the child feel safe and secure in their environment.
My first session
Please contact me for an informal chat to discuss you or your child's needs and then we can move forward and meet for a face to face assessment. I do offer home visits as part of my initial assessment where I will meet with the parent/carer and then the child. This will give you the chance to ask me any questions and for you to decide if I am the right therapist for you. Together we can discuss the therapeutic aims and what you and your child hope to achieve whilst coming to therapy.
If you decide that you would like to receive my support, Play Therapy sessions last 45 minutes at a regular time and location to provide consistency within the relationship. Therapeutic Parenting and Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy sessions are slightly longer lasting 60 minutes. Sessions are weekly and can be done face to face or online.
