About me and my therapy practice

"When you can't look on the bright side, I will sit with you in the dark" Lewis Carroll

Thank you for reading my profile, especially when there's so many to view.

As an experienced counsellor I truly believe that everyone has the ability to grow, heal and thrive. However when we are impacted by strong feelings, struggles or difficult experiences (past or present) our confidence and wellbeing can be affected. This may mean we find it difficult to trust ourselves, our feelings, thoughts, relationships or even our decisions.

That is when counselling can power positive change and transformation. It can help you in developing a better understanding of yourself and the emotional journey that may have led you to distress. Once we understand ourselves we can take steps towards self-compassion, self-confidence and a stronger identity. It is with this knowledge and self-acceptance that we can then choose the things that are important to us, the kind of relationships we want in our lives, and make decisions on how we wish to lead our lives.

Whilst I have a wide range of experience with varying presenting issues. I specialise in counselling people with depression, low self-esteem or past trauma. Being a Person-Centred Counsellor means that I will always keep your goals, wants and desires at the forefront of the therapeutic work we do together.

My aim is to help you in understanding yourself and your relationships better and to gently support you in finding a sense of self which fits with your inner values and the way you wish to live your life.

Practice description

I am really passionate about supporting people and have had over 15 years experience of listening to many life stories and helped them to make sense of their feelings, struggles, and difficulties, whether that be due to past issues or present ones.

Counselling can help you to develop a better understanding of the emotional journey that led you to distress and can help you to:

  • Develop greater self-esteem and confidence
  • Develop a better relationship with yourself and others
  • Talk about past traumas
  • Express difficult emotions and the impacts these have had on you
  • Recognise unhelpful patterns of behaviour and help develop better self-care practices
  • Develop self-compassion and a stronger identity

I have experience working in the NHS (primary care), within the mental health field in Mind in Haringey, with the LGBTQI+ community whilst working at Terrance Higgins Trust.

I have also worked as a staff counsellor in the Home Office and in the Houses of Parliament. I have worked with many people, presenting with issues including anger, anxiety, abuse, depression, bereavement, cultural conflicts, health issues, work issues such as bullying or stress, relationship issues, low self-esteem, sexual health.

This has provided me with experience of working across a diverse spectrum of people in terms of gender, sexual identity, ethnicity, race and class.

I have experience of working with people both in short-term and long-term therapy.

I offer counselling to individuals over the age of 18.

My first session

I offer a free 20 minute telephone consultation to introduce ourselves and see if we would like to meet for an initial assessment session.

If we decide to go ahead, we will schedule an initial appointment called an assessment. The assessment session is an opportunity for us both to get a feel of how we might work together and for me to begin to understand your concerns or struggles.

At the end of the assessment we will make an initial agreement, i.e. frequency and day/time of sessions. There may be some instances when we may need another assessment session, but I will discuss this with you during our first assessment session.

I work online and face to face

£55 per session (50 minutes) - daytime up to 5pm
