About me and my therapy practice
I am a qualified counsellor, although I initially trained as a Clinical Psychologist as well as a secondary school teacher. These experiences shaped my ability to develop strong and trusting therapeutic relationships with my clients based on compassion, trust and empathy. I work in an integrative way, which means that I use a variety of therapeutic approaches to suit you as an individual. I aim to work gently and collaboratively with you, providing a safe and supportive space to explore the experiences that have brought you to counselling. I offer both short- and longer-term counselling in-person, online or telephonically.
In addition to my private practice, I currently work part-time at Off The Record in Bath, counselling children and young people.
When you contact me, I will reply to set up an initial telephonic consultation. I will then phone you at your convenience and we will discuss your reasons for seeking counselling. I will explain how I work and you will have a chance to ask any questions you might have. Reaching out for help is a big step but it is also a very brave step. Therefore it is important that you feel comfortable talking to me. If we agree that we can work together, then I will offer you a counselling slot and a start date.
I practice from rooms in The Old School on the High Street in Sherston. There is parking on the High Street and behind The Old School – follow signs for Village Hall parking.
My rooms are on the 1st floor up a flight of stairs. Should this be a problem please let me know.
Sessions are offered in-person, telephonically or online via Zoom. Each session is 50 minutes long. Initially we will contract for 6 sessions but, if you want to continue, then we will review our work together at regular intervals.
My first session
I offer a pre-counselling initial telephonic assessment session of up to 30 mins which is free of charge. Here we will look at what you want to get out of counselling and decide if we can work together. Admin and paperwork is covered and dates and times are agreed. I can also address any questions you might have on how therapy is conducted.
In your first actual session, we will explore what has brought you into therapy and look at what you would like to get out of counselling in greater detail. Although I won't direct the course of your therapy, it helps to have some focus.
