About me and my therapy practice
I am an integrative counsellor offering counselling to individuals on a short and long term basis. We are all different and therefore one approach does not suit all. Working as an integrative counsellor, I draw on Person-centred, Cognitive, Existential and Psychodynamic approaches, allowing us to explore all areas of your life, in a way that works best for you. My approach in counselling is based on building a secure and trusting relationship, whereby you feel safe, valued, and emotionally supported during our sessions together. Thereby supporting you through your experiences in relation to the difficulties you may currently be facing.
I have over 35 years experience of working in the public health sector, and have gained an understanding of various situations or circumstances that can impact emotionally, mentally and physically. I have experience of working on the front line in emergency care, urgent care and also have experience of working with families and children in the community. Thereby I have gained an insight into the stresses and pressures that individuals in these areas may experience.
I have a professional interest in how current and historical events can impact on us individually, in our relationships and how through experiences like stress, anxiety, low self esteem and depression. Examples may include loss, bereavement, abuse, work related issues or family related issues and parental or caring responsibilities.
My experience of working in the health sector enables me to support you with issues relating to mental health and physical wellbeing, how they impact each other and relationships with others.
My first session
During our first session, we will explore concerns that have brought you to counselling, your expectations and hopes whilst providing you the opportunity to ask any questions that you may have. There is no obligation for you to continue if it doesn’t feel right for you.
