Availability

I work Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursday - both daytime and evenings.

Please let me know your availability; and I will try my best to find a suitable time slot for you.

I generally see people for regular weekly sessions. It tends to work best therapeutically this way.

I work with couples, as well as individuals; and find working online can make couples counselling a far more viable option for those with particularly busy lives.

About me and my therapy practice

I offer telephone counselling and counselling by video calling.

Sessions are for 60 minutes to allow a little extra time for connecting through technology.

I am not seeing people for face-to-face sessions at this time.

***********************************************************

I primarily use a psychodynamic approach, which can be used for a wide range of problems. It is particularly well suited to issues around relationships; traumatic events from the past; loss; abuse and self-esteem.

I have also had training in brief therapy, (Dynamic Interpersonal Therapy); in CBT; in couples counselling with Relate; and a person-centred training.

I draw on these trainings and all my clinical experience to help provide the most suitable therapy for you.

My qualifications include:

Post Graduate Diploma in Psychodynamic Counselling - 2007
Diploma in Counselling, (Person-Centred) - 1998
BSc(Econ) in Social Philiosophy- 1995
BSc in Psychology - 1975
Certified Cyber Therapist with Online Therapy Insititute - 2020

I have had a broad experience as a counsellor over many years of practice in the NHS Primary Care Mental Health teams, Relate, not-for-profit organsiations, NHS occupational health, Employee Assistance Programmes, (EAPs); Bupa, and of course my own private practice.

I am therefore able to offer therapy for a wide range of issues including relationships, stress, anxiety, trauma, bereavement and other forms of loss, identity, self-esteem.

My first session

The initial session is an assessment session. I may therefore ask more questions than in future sessions. This allows me to build up a picture of what is going on for you in the present; and a sense of your past relevant history.

I may ask why you think you have come along; and why you think you have come along now.

Availability

I work Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays - both days and evenings as available.

I find out many people find working online as more accessible service - given we often have very busy lives and a lot to fit in.

About me and my therapy practice

I would describe the way that I work as from a fundamentally psychodynamic perspective - but in a person-centred way.

I am well experienced in delivering brief, short term focused therapy through my counselling and supervisory work in NHS IAPT/Primary Care Mental Health services; and as a therapist in NHS occupational health services; and in insurance, such as Bupa, and Employee Assistance Programme, (EAP), services;

My training at the Anna Freud Centre in Dynamic Interpersonal Therapy, (DIT), (which was developed for brief therapy) has been very helpful in this regard.

Alongside the brief focused work, I have for many years worked with clients requiring the depth of long term therapy. I enjoy both the depth and breadth of long term work, and the challenge and focus of time-limited therapy.

As well as working with individuals, I am Relate-trained and work as a couples counsellor for both long and short term clients.

I work with a wide range of issues including depression, anxiety, stress, complex loss and long term health conditions. Areas of particular interest for me are relationships, trauma, abuse and identity.

I can offer weekly or fortnightly supervision sessions depending on which is more appropriate for your experience and caseload.
