About me and my therapy practice

I have worked within the NHS as a therapist for over 15yrs with children and adults. My background is person-centered counselling, CBT & Systemic (relationship/family) approaches, I have a Masters degree In Counselling Psychology. The core of the humanistic approach underpins the therapy I offer - a strong belief in regard to the relationship between the therapist & client and how this is a powerful catalyst for change. I believe people can be empowered to find their own answers. I aim to provide the conditions for this & build with you a therapeutic relationship to safely work through what you bring. My sessions are client led and I will offer you a safe, non-judgmental space to talk and explore your thoughts and feelings to find ways to challenge them, or learn to accept them. Therapy can be challenging and difficult but I aim to sit with you in chaos, be beside you, tolerate any 'stuckness' and bear and contain distress. Attachment theory is a significant influence in my approach - the significance of our early relationships. How our past early relationships influence our present relationships (with ourselves and others) and the patterns - often harmful ways of relating, that we can find ourselves repeating, causing unhappiness. Therapy can help recognise this, explore this, increase insight and understanding, help us process painful experiences and empower us to change. How we work together will be based on your individual needs and this will be discussed at our first meeting. As I take a relational approach, I can see you as an individual and/or with family members/partners if appropriate. Thinking about and choosing a therapist can feel overwhelming, please contact me if you’d like to talk more about working together or have questions. I can meet initially with no obligation to inform your decision as to whether you wish to work with me.
