About me and my therapy practice
I offer 50 minute face to face therapy sessions during the day and early evening. I work at home in a quiet village outside Oxford.
I see clients for short term counselling or open ended psychodynamic psychotherapy . If there is a particular current problem you are dealing with, we might agree to work together for a fixed number of sessions. Often, where there are more deep rooted anxieties or emotional difficulties, it is helpful to come for a longer period of time for a session each week at a fixed time. I also offer twice weekly therapy if we decide this would be appropriate.
Naturally, it is often difficult to make contact with someone new and it quite often takes some courage to seek help and begin therapy. I always arrange an initial assessment session where we can think about your needs, expectations and any particular worries about starting counselling. This often helps to clarify whether it feels right for you to commit to further sessions, and indeed whether I feel that psychodynamic therapy could be helpful for you.
If you do decide to begin therapy , whether time-limited or longer term, you will have a dedicated confidential space in which to begin to think about what is troubling you. There is often some immediate relief in being able to express whatever is on your mind, but in psychodynamic work, we will begin to make links between current emotional difficulties and past experiences and relationships. Greater understanding and insights about what has affected you can bring healing and change over time, as well as new ways of thinking and behaving.
The relationship with your therapist plays an important part in this process and is something we will keep in mind and explore during our work. The therapeutic relationship and feelings of trust which are a key part of this, may take some time to develop but from the first session you will be talking in a private and safe setting.
