About me and my therapy practiceHi, I'm Jane, thanks for taking a look at my listing - I know that it can be really hard to search out support, especially if you're feeling vulnerable and confused. Like you, I once scrolled through pages and pages of profiles trying to decide who I could trust with my thoughts and worries, who might understand me and who would be easy to talk to. I offer a safe, quiet and confidential space for you to discuss and explore your emotions and issues, at your pace. I work in a creative and integrative way, which means that I adapt how I work to meet your needs best.
I pursued a career in counselling after witnessing the devastating effect of crime when I worked in Crown Courts across the south-east. From burglary to rape, there is almost always an innocent victim who is left damaged by the callous actions of others. I wanted to be able to help these people. I've also volunteered at charities for both mental health and for carers. I'm an animal lover and have rehabilitation cases from Spain; there may be dogs and cats wandering about if you come for a face to face session so do please bear this in mind if you suffer with allergies.
HOW COUNSELLING CAN HELP
Sometimes life can be tough; we can get confused, low or stressed and can't seem to find our way - it's at these times that counselling can be useful and help us understand our emotions. People seek counselling for many reasons, sometimes due to a major trauma but it could be because there is something on your mind such as a current problem, a lingering feeling, an incident which still affects you, or maybe you can’t quite put your finger on what it is. With the current pandemic, all of these can seem even bigger issues and join with worries we may have about our own safety and the wellbeing of loved ones.
Being an integrative therapist means that I have trained in several different types of therapy. You as the client don't need to know what these are (unless you are interested and then I will be happy to discuss modality with you) but it means that I can offer techniques and skills from a wide base, and hopefully introduce them seamlessly and at the right stage for you.
My first session
First sessions are almost always a daunting prospect...not knowing what to expect coupled with speaking to a stranger are bad enough, but when we are already in an unhappy or unsettled place then the whole event gets a lot more terrifying.
So I always offer a free initial 30 minute meeting. It gives you a chance to get a "feel" for me and find out a bit more about how I work, without any obligation to return or even get back into contact if it doesn't feel right for you. In these virus filled times, all my work is online or by phone as I'm not in a position to resume face to face work yet. I can offer various different platforms however, I've even amazed myself at my technical development!
If you do feel you want to continue working together after this, we'd typically meet up weekly, with regular reviews and checks on how you are finding the pace and progress. You can leave whenever you want, although I always recommend a final session together so we can look to the future and ensure that sound strategies are in place for your continuing growth and wellbeing.
