About me and my therapy practice
My name is Jennifer and I became a counsellor because I had received counselling at a time in my past when I felt unable to cope with life and felt suicidal: this counselling helped me find a reason to live. I now offer my experience and skills to help others. I can teach you how to alleviate anxiety, panic, stress and depression. I have diverse experience in primary care and have counselled for a rape and sexual abuse support centre and feel passionately that survivors should be heard.
My clients have told me they value my ability to listen with empathy. This means I am able to be in the moment with you, seeing the world as you see it, truly ‘walking in your shoes’ yet also walking beside you, guiding you on your healing counselling journey.
My specialist interest is counselling LGBT people and their families, and with survivors of sexual abuse. I am an ally to the LGBT Community and am a member of The Gendered Intelligence Network for Therapists and Counsellors: trans/queer/ gay/gender diversity is my everyday life. I have experience of these gender nonconforming issues and the associated fear and isolation which can go hand in hand with these. I will work confidentially with you to explore your authentic self, enabling you to be proud of and find joy in the person you are.
I create a safe place for you, where you can be free to be yourself. I am non-judgemental. I will not tell you what to do. I will work with you to understand and control your moods, enabling you to work towards gaining more control over your life. I will work with you towards self-empowerment, making life choices which are right for you, so you can go out into the world with a new beginning.
