About me and my therapy practice

I hold a Foundation Degree in Integrative Counselling incorporating Psychodynamic and Person Centred theory. The Integrative approach gives me greater scope to adapt theory most suited to the individual client.

I am a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and am bound by its codes and ethics.

I have an inherently caring and nurturing disposition. My reflective empathetic nature and listening capabilities have led me to become a counsellor.

I have many years practical experience working at Northampton Rape Crisis. For the past 5 years I have worked on a private basis with clients. My experience from both has developed a better understanding and more rounded knowledge of many issues that clients present.

We all face challenges in life such as bereavement, loss of job, illness, breakdown of relationship, abuse (physical or mental) which, at times, can be overwhelming. It may lead to anxiety, stress, fear, self-harm, low self-esteem, addiction and eating problems but to name a few.

Practice description

I provide a safe, very comfortable and confidential space in which you can speak openly, without fear of criticism or judgment.

I think that it  is most important to understand that the journey of therapy is team work; therapist and client.

I encourage you to speak freely. It can be the comments that at first seem trivial/irrelevant that lead to the greatest 'aha moments' It also provides you with, maybe,  the first opportunity to share and ultimately empty the clutter from your mind.

I am passionate about my work. My desire is to help you identify and resolve internal conflicts and deep-rooted difficulties which are causing you to be stuck in an often, negative, self-critical and low place.

Difficulties in your past can create major disruption in your ability to  navigate present life. Part of my role is to identify any links, where relevant, to help you gain insight which will help you let go of past hurt and move on with your life in a more hopeful and peaceful way.

The aim is to help you become more self-aware and learn better  strategies to cope with the challenges that life throws at you.

Clients sometimes say "but I think its too late to change, this is how it has always been!" and I reassure them that experience has taught me that truly it is never too late!

My first session

First session will consist of a brief introduction, some administration issues and a few questions to assess the areas that are causing the most difficulties. We will then start working towards achieving the vision you have for the future. This first session may be slightly longer - to accommodate the initial introduction etc. The normal rates will be applicable.
