About me and my therapy practice
Maybe you've been wondering how you got to this point in your life and maybe you've been questioning whether anything will ever change. Maybe you know why you're here and what you're looking for. ..
Counselling with me will provide you with human connection, time and space where you'll be listened to and supported while you make sense of what's going on and work out what you need to move forward in your life. Together we might look with curiosity at the ways in which life has happened to you and how you have coped with it. I'll use my therapeutic skills to support you through whatever it is that is causing you to reach out right now.
Trust develops over time and I’ll be by your side as you take a stroll through the experiences you’ve had and the challenges you’re facing. I'll provide a confidential space where my aim is that you'll feel able to be yourself and share whatever is most important to you.
All my work sits within a framework of ethics set out by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy so you can be assured of the standards and principles that I uphold in my work
I am especially experienced with addictive behaviour, behaviour that causes harm to others, behaviour that causes harm to self, controlling behaviour, anxiety, feelings of hopelessness, helplessness, self-loathing, feeling stuck in life, low self-esteem, stress and difficulty committing to life and relationships.
Our experiences can prevent us from living a life we would like to be living. It is possible to find new pathways, forge forward and create a life worth living.
I offer an informal, free of charge chat on the phone, there's no obligation to begin counselling just an opportunity to get a sense of what it might be like to have counselling with me. Feel welcome to get in touch.
Practice description
Sessions take place either face to face or via Skype.
When difficult thoughts, feelings, behaviours, experiences or situations are getting in the way of life it’s time to reach out to someone who can help you make sense of what’s going on.
It is possible to grow through the challenges that life throws up, rather than feel broken down. I can work with you face to face or over video call, from either my office in Hebden Bridge or out in our beautiful local countryside.
I want to help you to have meaningful relationships, achieve career success and be content with life. The past doesn’t have to define who you are, neither does it have to negatively impact on your life today.
Areas of most experience:
Anxiety and Stress, Substance and Alcohol use, Violence, Domestic Abuse (Coercive control, financial abuse), Sexual Violence, Addictions.
I offer counselling with Individuals, Couples or Groups. Adults and young people. I also offer eco walk and talk sessions.
Please visit my website or email me if you'd like to know more.
My first session
I'll bring my skills, you bring yourself and together we'll find a way through.
This may be the first time you've had counselling. It's natural to feel nervous and to not know what to expect. I invite you to let me know so that i can attend to any concerns or thoughts. During the first session we'll have a chat about what's bringing you to counselling and what might be helpful and what you might be looking for from me.
I take a collaborative approach and I consider us both to be equals in the room. Let's talk together about what might be most helpful to you.
If you’d like an initial session to see if I’ll be the right person for you, then please contact me, without any obligation, via email or through the contact page of my website.
Please visit Dialogueslife.com for more information.
I look forward to hearing from you.

About me and my therapy practice
Relational Supervision
I offer Relational Supervision which incorporates the use of Hawkins and Shohet’s 7 eyed model to supervisees on a 1:1 or small group basis. I aim to encourage and invite curiosity, excitement and openness for the supervisee’s own exploration of their process within their working practice.
Email me: counsellingwithjowood@gmail.com to enquire.
Practice description
I offer a safe, nurturing environment where unconditional positive regard, guidance and motivational support allow for honesty and openness when discussing all aspects of client work and my aim is to create robust, interpersonal relationships with supervisees who wish to determine their own development, take ownership of their learning goals and embrace their own unique practice.
The work we do as therapists can be both incredibly rewarding and challenging. It is imperative that we take good care of ourselves in order that we can give the best possible service to clients and supervision is an important aspect of the therapist’s self-care.
I bring the benefit of my experience as a therapeutic counsellor, business owner and life and career coach. Not only can I support you, the supervisee, to be the best therapist you can be, I can also support you in your life and career goals and inspire you in your ambition. Within our unique working relationship I can attend to your professional needs by motivating and supporting you to grow and further your knowledge, develop your ambition and flourish in your career.
