About me and my therapy practice
I am registered member of the BACP and an integrative relational psychotherapist. This means that I work with various psychotherapeutic methods, tailored to each individual and use the psychotherapeutic relationship to help identify conflicts and personal struggles. I also work with my clients to identify essential coping strategies and defences that may have been necessary at one time but present difficulties in the present day. Together, we venture into a journey of discovery and seek to find identity, self-esteem, worth and a way of harnessing wants and needs, whilst maintaining healthy, mutual relationships. I work in several different areas, such as addictions. As an example, addictive behaviours can develop for several reasons, and they can leave a person feeling lonely, isolated and struggling with their emotions. This can adversely affect relationships and create additional physiological challenges. I see the work as a collaboration with my clients and we have a wonderful opportunity to delve into early life experiences, including early attachments, to identify a person’s fears as well as desires and to consider the way in which it might have been necessary to navigate life, especially in relation to oneself and others. I aim to provide a safe therapeutic environment where care can be given to each individual as well as their thoughts and feelings, making way for individual expression and choice.
My first session
I offer a first session that lasts 1 hour, as an exploratory session. This is where I feel it is important that both of us determine how or whether we could work together. Subsequent sessions last 50 minutes and I normally offer 1 year, following which, together, we can review whether or not to extend the therapy.
As a registered member of the BACP I work in accordance with the BACP's Ethical Framework and adhere to a strict code of ethics. All sessions and consultations are confidential.
