About me and my therapy practice
Hello, thank you for looking at my profile. We all have periods of time when life just feels too much, we may feel overwhelmed, feel stuck or find ourselves repeating unhealthy patterns of behaviour. Reaching out can be the first step of your journey in working towards a healthier way of being which can be immensely liberating. I offer space and time to untangle emotions, feelings and behaviours that may at times not make sense within ourselves. During our sessions I will offer a warm, caring, and compassionate safe space.
My practice is strength focused with a trauma informed approach. I am a Counsellor and Psychotherapist with many years of experience, having qualified in 2015. I have over 30 years’ of working face to face alongside clients within a variety of statutory organisations, as a drug and alcohol Recovery Worker (NHS), Systemic Family Therapist, and a Mental Health support worker within a University setting. I am trained as a Humanistic and Integrative therapist, which enables me to use the most appropriate approach to reflect the diverse clients I work with. I know at times it can be lonely and tiring trying to manage on your own and I am here to work alongside you. I will endeavour to reach your goals and support you to find ways to manage the issues that have led you to seek help.
At the moment I am offering video and phone sessions until further notice and will then resume face to face. Although I am mindful that some may prefer for us to continue work on line, I will be led by you.
My regular practise space is based in the centre of Nottingham. While this space is not wheel chair access, I will ensue that those with issues off mobility are able to access my therapy, by either video or by using a space which has access.
My first session
It is important to find the most appropriate therapist to meet your needs, for what could be a life affirming journey. Initially, I offer a free 20 min phone call or video call to see if we would benefit from working together. If you feel comfortable with me as your therapist, we would then book in our first session. The time and date would be set, with an expectation that we would meet weekly, at the same time and day. Although, mindful that life can get in the way, there is of course flexibility to this.
Within our first session I will introduce how I work and explore expectations. We shall explore the reasons which prompted you to seek help and to think about what it might mean to be in therapy. There will be a bit off paper work to be done, but this is kept to a minimal. We will discuss contracting, and I will explain about the cancellation policy, confidentiality. Once completed, we then are able to start the work ahead, at your pace within a safe and holding relationship.
